I have loved this book series for many years. It is a cult classic and a great sci fi fantasy series. I read everyday and I am now listening to the whole series again. I love this series and even the new book written by another author after Robert Jordan died.
It has the same narrators as the rest of the series, however they must have gotten an intern to do the editing. There are so many places where you hear the same sentence over again that I think the recording is an hour longer than it should have been. Also each of the 'breaks' for the download are in the middle of a sentence or paragraph. Very hard to listen to.
If you have read the whole series to this point, the depth of the character development is paying off in spades!
Master (or Lord) Matt Cauthen has grown into this exciting and legendary warrior/leader/horn blower!
yes, and this is another GREAT performance
this is a dumb question
keep reading this WOT series... it just keeps getting better!
I love the readers they bring the story to life!
Similar in style to Lord of the Rings. Very much a questing story with a detailed world and detailed description. There are a lot of characters to remember and it is difficult at first but by the second or third book you don't have to think about who the characters are any more and you can really enjoy the twists and turns of the plot.
I really liked Perrin and Elaine.
You are reading the best epic fantasy series there is. period. It may take a while to get into it but you will. There are 2600 plus characters but don't get scared teenagers read this every day. You will know these peoples as "friends" and "enemies" and like your own family. Read by the dynamic duo of recitation kate reading and michael kramer... they pull it all together .. I switch genres just to listen to them... It [the series] is really one huge wonderful story broken into 14 too short books that nobody wants to see ended..I can not express how good these books are. I have started 16 different friends reading TWoT and they are all addicted. You think that maybe the books are enchanted some how???
If fantasy is your genre you have arrived....... paul t.
I love audio book like mostly Sci-fi book s zombies a fav
This book was not as good as the first 6 just like book 7 it gos on and on about things you don't care about and he could have gotten rid of half of it and it would have been better. Also to many people to try to follow I find myself getting lost. All the books a long winded but this on takes the cake and I don,t care what they are dressed up inis it a fashion show or a adventure . I hope the next book is better.
From book 5 on the women are depicted as becoming more and more selfish, deceitful and basically intolerable. The men are mechanical, boring and insane. To applaud a hero they must have some redeeming qualities like respect for honor , loyality, sensitivity to the suffering of the the weak. I think with Jordan gone the purpose of character has been lost. I don't care who wins out there are no worthy choices
I very much enjoyed the first 6 books, but since the 7th this series has started to get bogged down. This particular book to my mind is the worst of the lot. Jordan is having difficult tying together somewhat disjointed plot lines and is losing the plot in giving us a clearer description of what is happening in some situations. Rand barely gets a look in and the main episode with him against the Seanchan is probably the worst piece of writing he has done to date. There are way too many characters (and dresses) and descriptions into details of almost minute proportions serve to distract the listener and do nothing to advance the story line. Frankly the books could be easily half the length without all the dross.
Having said that, if you have already gone through the first 7 books, then continue, although this is sometimes punishment that the Mistress of Novices might be handing out. I trust the rest of the series picks up and gets to the point a little quicker and with less distraction.
As usual the readers have delivered an excellent vocalisation of the content. Full marks the Michael and Kate.
I've given this a 4 only because of the benefit of the previous material, otherwise it would score 3.5
If you have made it this far in the series you might as well listen to this one, I wish I wasn't the only person to say this. I would say "spoiler alert" but as you can guess with this book as well as the last couple not much happens. More characters added who most likely you will never hear of again ( who can keep track of them all without a spreadsheet) what they are wearing described in aching detail, and not enough action. I feel sorry for the people who purchased at retail and not your monthly credit.
I will most likely gut out the entire series. But I will fill fill the gaps between my monthly credit with some good ole science fiction. I recommend the Halo trilogy by Greg Bear.
I have not listened to anything else they have done, they have done a great job thus far. They get paid to do this and it must be painful for them. I would love to be a fly on the wall after one of their recording sessions. But hey it is job security right?
Not really. I work on a farm so I spend many hours outside I just used this to kill some time while I weeded my carrots and staked my tomatoes.
I am hoping to join the club of " I can't believe I listened to the whole thing" one day. I started with The Wheel of Time back in the early 90's.
Avid fan of Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but still enjoy other forms of literature.
Although the story itself was alright, the audio editing was horrible quality with many bits of audio repeating due to careless editing and some very strange audio artifacts sneaking in every once in a while.
Kate Readings reading style does not appeal to me as she over dramatisizes some of the speech leading to some very annoying listening, every time she tries to portray a female character speaking in distress it sounds rather annoying.
"Too much padding"
The basic concepts are good and the story is pretty good but there's so much unnecessary padding as if the author is trying to get as many books as possible from the series. Basically twice as long as it needs to be.
The previous book in the series.
I would recommend this series for anyone looking to make a BIG commitment to a single fantasy world
the huge expansive arc over the series
Michael Kramer has also done the mist born series. very good
"The end is not in sight"
Having read the books dozens of times, the different stress in speech puts new facets onto the tale. Unfortunately, now starts the Plotline Of Doom ...
"Odd words clash."
Continuation of a great epic.
"Game of Thrones" for obvious reasons.
There are several words in the text which are badly mispronounced. Most Americans will not agree with me when I say that "HERBS" has an 'H' and it is pronounced.
An arrow is NOTCHED to a bow and not KNOCKED.
The word LEAPED is pronounced LEPT.
There are others but one would not want to be called pedantic. Overall I am enjoying the Series and particularly the performances of Michael and Kate. It's just that once in a while a mispronunciation has me jumping around and screaming at my Kindle.
Done it! Listened while working through the whole 14 books. Not bad - not brilliant either. Too much describing of what are people wearing, limited dictionary of dialogues and male-female relationships/interactions painfully similar, predictable -boring (Mr Freud would find it certainly interesting though :)
Maybe because English isn't my first language, maybe I'm spoiled by other writers or maybe Robert Jordan just isn't my type of author but haven't I been working at the time of listening I would considered it time wasted.
"Excellent, a compelling and addictive epic."
This is one of the best fantasy epics ever written, a series right up there with the work of J. R. R. Tolkien but be warned it is not one to be taken up lightly, this series is Huge!
The books have been kept together so one audio book will get you one book and many hours of happy listening.
Sadly Robert Jordan died in 2007 after publishing book 11, but with the help of Jordan’s wife/editor Harriet McDougal, Brandon Sanderson has taken up the torch, using Jordan’s plentiful notes he is finishing off the series brilliantly, with book 14 being the final volume.
The series is voiced by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading throughout and their performances are exemplary, their narration brings the world to life in a way that simply reading it never had for me, they bring a unique voice and feeling to each of the characters that brings them to life and firmly embeds them in your heart.
The only negative I have to put in is that the audiobooks chapter division bears no relation to where the chapters start and end in the books making the chapter search and snooze modes on the app all but useless.
All in all a five star read. An absolute must for any fantasy epic fan.
While the story is as expected from a continuation of this story my real issue comes from the voice 'talent' used for the narration.
Both the male and female voices are extremely dull and monotone which really detracts from the story.
The male voice in particularly bad with an odd patronising tone.
The story is quite good but this version of an audiobook isn't up to much.
