Publisher's summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In The Path of Daggers, the eighth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al'Thor engages in battle wearing the Crown of Swords and wielding Callandor against a force unprepared for the wrath of the Dragon Reborn.

The Seanchan invaders are heading for Illian—and Rand's army of Asha'man soldiers. When they meet in battle, some of the Asha'man are afflicted by madness, unable to control their channeling and unleashing raw power.

The madness extends to Rand himself. He has been hearing the voice of a man believed to have been the previous Dragon Reborn. Besieged by visions and debilitated whenever he uses the One Power, Rand chooses to attack the Seanchan with Callandor. The sword consumes him with a berserker rage, felling ally and enemy alike. And when he regains his senses, Rand finds himself less trusted by those who were once the most loyal.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

I found the pacing of this book much improved from the last. So excited to read the next!

Second Listen

Good series, this is my second time through. I can hardly wait for the TV adaptation coming in November. Kramer and Reading do a great job on the narration. I like the fact they were the same as in the last several books. I look the consistency.

Probably the last good book Robert Jordan wrote

In some ways I found this book to be among the best he's written, but I did skip a couple sub-plot chapters.

When the author sticks to the main characters the books are excellent, and for the most part that happens in this book. The stories with Rand, Matt and (maybe) Perrin are the characters that make the books great. There are a couple exceptions, but for the most part, his sub-plot stories with the women in the books where they bicker, play mind games with each other, and talk of clothing gets old fast. That content could have been reduced to 1/10th the size for a vast improvement in the read. Basically when Rand or Matt are not the main story, the read stagnates.

After this book Rand largely disappears from the story, and RJ (mostly) transitions into milking the series, rather than writing to finish it like he should have. It's a bit sad, or maybe pathetic is a better word that he left the story unfinished. Brandon Sanderson was a poor choice to finish the series, his writing style is so different that the characters will no longer feel the same,

I'd recommend skipping the 2021 film version of these books, the story line was changed to the point it no longer resembles the original. It's bad, to the point of being offensive to watch; it would be better if they changed the name of the video presentation as it really has nothing to do with Robert Jordan's core writings. And sadly, it's also best to skip the last two books in this series - at least until they find another author (aside from BS) to finish it.

Bit of a slog

Many people warned me that this book is where most people quit. I can see why! Robert Jordan isn’t great with payoffs and endings, and since book 3 we haven’t had a decent payoff or ending and book 8 begins to feel like a slog. However! It’s shorter than book 7 and starts weaving the pattern for some payoffs. Don’t read it expecting it to be amazing. Just plough through to get to the good stuff later on.

Another Great Story

Probably the shortest of the series. The first with mainly female POV with an ending that will leave you desperately wanted to start the next book. More politics than action until the end

Daggers Path

The story continues with rough edges & sometimes moving thru smoothing resolution. An avalanche of detail coats the situational setting, occasionally surprising action & slices of humor emerge from some characters.

Don’t let the show ruin the series for you!

These books are incredible - orders of magnitude better than the show. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Scattered story

Not enough action and not enough time. Feels too spread out. I would like more focus.
