Publisher's summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In The Path of Daggers, the eighth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al'Thor engages in battle wearing the Crown of Swords and wielding Callandor against a force unprepared for the wrath of the Dragon Reborn.

The Seanchan invaders are heading for Illian—and Rand's army of Asha'man soldiers. When they meet in battle, some of the Asha'man are afflicted by madness, unable to control their channeling and unleashing raw power.

The madness extends to Rand himself. He has been hearing the voice of a man believed to have been the previous Dragon Reborn. Besieged by visions and debilitated whenever he uses the One Power, Rand chooses to attack the Seanchan with Callandor. The sword consumes him with a berserker rage, felling ally and enemy alike. And when he regains his senses, Rand finds himself less trusted by those who were once the most loyal.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

popular fiction

super job of floating the ongoing saga. could almost call these later series books fan-fiction, but who's checking too markedly?

Changes between books

It’s the same people reading as before, but they seem to be changing the way they pronounce names every time they change books. Other than that it was great.

Very good book and point in the series

Even as this book relates the story line more in the preparation and tensing of things, it's still full of action, development and has a very balanced and spread out action, character interaction and changes throughout the book. The end almost doesn't feel like culmination of events, but probably better so, making the whole book engaging and interesting.
Besides, it proves and shows some important points, which I cannot reveal without spoilers, but the parallels to real world and politics are just impressive and staggering. This is mostly felt in this book, in my opinion, even as all books are great for that: building great rich world and depicting very well world powers interaction, domination and spheres of influence.
A very great book, even as all in the series are great, this one seems to identify itself with the differences mentioned above and the different atmosphere built and felt in this book compared to others. There's also a change of tone and pace, again cannot go into detail without spoilers.

Read as the Dragon truly becomes a world leader!

The Seanchan, The Prophet, The chosen and Armies are after the dragon reborn but he somehow struggles forward to try to live up to the prophecy.

This book like each book before continues to build a wonderful fantasy world filled with intriguing concepts and political intrigue coupled with medieval warfare all with trappings of magic and fantastic beasts. I can't put this series down and if you are on this book I bet you'll continue to feel the same way!

I love the politics but so much padding

we all know this think has waaaay too much of basically everything and it is a shorter book anyway and nothing in particular happens except folks are in the places they need to be for the next part.

Good Book, not great

Not the best book in the series, but still good. The series is in a bit of a lul at this point, but still better than a lot of other fantasy. The audiobook for this entry has a lot of issues though. It was clearly taken from a set of tapes, but it is full of skips and playbacks and missing audio. Easily the worst book in the series as far as moving it from tapes to mp3 goes.

Better 2nd time

First time I read this I knew it as the slog. It was to be skimmed and tread lightly, lest my interest in the series waned. But I missed so much that way. This time was much better. Thanks to the performances, I now have a fuller understanding. But I do admit I remembered more than j realized. Though the pace has slowed, it’s not as bad as I had recalled. So that’s good!
