Publisher's summary

Runner and his team managed to bring peace to Tirtius, successfully log the crew out, and have begun settling in to make a home on the isle of Vix. Fate isn't going to let them go that easily though. She clearly hasn't decided on what to do with him. Plots are in motion. Threats local, divine, and abroad scheme to exterminate Runner and the threat he represents. The possibility of what he could become. To top it all off, the server is clearly ramping up towards a full awakening. What does one do with an entire world of "living" beings who are aware?

It all comes to a head when an assassin attempts to take his life in his own home.

Now comes the true test.

What is he willing to wager to build the future he wants, both in game and out?

Or rather, who?

Something different in a good way!

William D Arand finishes off his selfless hero trilogy with what I can only describe as the best book of the series. New characters and old favourites with some solid world building and character development I've found myself going back to the first book to start enjoying the trilogy again.

Jeff Hays has worked his magic on this book as well, if your not familiar with his other work I strongly recommend checking it out, he has a gift for adding a unique tone to each character, adding another dimension to an already good work there's not much more I can add to this without spoilers so I'll just finish up by saying it was worth a credit, and I hope to see the author add more onto this in the future, there's so much potential for more books and I'm more than willing to buy them

16 year olds wet dream.

The first book started of promising but it devolved into a teenage wet dream. I enjoyed the series but there were times where the main character interacted with his "harem" and it got a little cringy. I didn't like the fact one of the main plot points was shooed away and replaced with an easier plot. All in all it was a cool book, but be prepared for a teenage boys fantasy

A very unsatisfying conclusion

I liked the first two books. They weren't amazing, but enjoyable. After Nadine's death and Runner's torturing of Jacob in the second book, I had expected things to get a little more serious in the third book. Some actual conflict between people he cared about. Something other than Runner and his ever expanding harem against the game. I was disappointed.

Runner tortures Jacob in extreme fashion and when the girls find out they just say Nadine wouldn't approve, Runner agrees, and that's the end of it. Runner finds out that someone is spying on him, a perfect chance for one of the girls to betray him, but no. We don't even find out who the spy is. The author explains that after a while the people that are taken in by Runner's charisma stat will eventually be unaffected by it, but not a single person changes their feelings about him. Really? Not a single girl in his harem would prefer a man who is at least occasionally serious. Not a single girl wants a monogamous relationship, even though that is clearly the norm in the game setting.

On that note, the author seems unable to grasp the idea that a person can in fact care about someone without having sex with them. Runner's harem bulges at the seems in this book. Even as he professes to like strong women, every single girl melts to his touch. The only women who stands up to him are the Goddess he defeats and the one actual human that was his former girlfriend.

And I will end with werewolf nipple tweaks. Seriously... All I am going to say to that is bravo to Jeff Hays for being able to read through that scene without cringing.

Great ending, to a fantastic series.

I would and am going to read these books again, worth the credit, and you'll fall in love with the characters.

much better then superheroes for sale

the story of Runner is very similar and when I say very somewhere I mean the same Ark as Felix in superheroes for sale but superheroes for sale is a lot more political and the story is not as good and it makes less sense. story of Runner is excellent for what it is. I felt like this is why superheroes for sale was supposed to be then I realized this Trilogy what came first and everything clicked because the first is normally the best it's a shame that the author writes and trilogies because after this third book I would love to know what happens next with Runner. anyway the performance is great the characters are good if you like this sort of story then this thing is awesome I thought the first book of superheroes for sale was really interesting but Book 2 and 3 were so cartoony and ridiculous. this book however you get to see the ark and understand the transition of all the characters and everything makes sense I recommend if you're deciding between the two series don't bother with superheroes for sale and just read this series

sorry if there's any errors this was dictated by Google dictation

Series stated interesting, got boring

Series started interesting, askingb some philosophical questions about player behavior in games. ended up being av pathetic power trip. God, emperor, overpowered player. everything just gets hand too easily to Runner, trivializes everything. And don't get me started on the polygamy. I have polyamorous friends and this is not how it works. It's way too one sided. Women who are supposed to be strong warriors in the story just end up weak and giving up their own freedom so just one guy can have several women. That's just sad for the ladies. True poly relationships should allow for just as much freedom for women as for men. This guy's power trip is disgusting, so sad he abandoned every interesting and intelligent idea he had in his first book to write a bad sex fantasy. Also, pretending that he can get all these women because he's a nice guy who accepts them by complimenting then a bit? He's just weak and clearly doesn't know how women work. which... is unfortunate since 90% of his characters are women. I'll be returning this series.

rather enjoyed this book despite the sacrilege

this book is the right blend of action-adventure and sorrow. pain Joy and rough choices to make. warning to my fellow Christians is because quite sacrilegious as in the individual does claim himself to be a God in a PC role-playing game like environment.

Became pathetic - couldn’t finish, got refund

Book becomes a soft core porno for 13 year olds. Found myself skipping vast sections (in which the main character pretends to be a smooth talker who is totally not a sexual predator) to try and find actually interesting plot development only to be disappointed over and over again. Not worth wasting your time on - there are so many better books out there!

Good resolution to the trilogy

Perhaps as interesting as book 1, Awakenings brings the storyline to a very satisfying conclusion. I love the sarcasm of the main character and continue to roll my eyes at the harem fantasy fulfillment.
