Publisher's summary

While the world carries on unawares, Stryker, who leads an army of demons and vampires, is plotting an all out onslaught against his enemies—which, unfortunately for us, includes the entire human race. To avenge his sister, Stryker prepares to annihilate the Dark-Hunters. But things go awry when his oldest enemy returns. Enter his ex-wife. Zephyra. Just when he thought nothing could stop him, he's now embroiled in a centuries old war with a shrew who gives new meaning to pain.

Love in vein: listen to another Dark-Hunter novel.

Believe the reviews on the narrator...

Thankfully this book is shorter than most because the narrator, Scott Brick, did not do it justice. He read it like he was mocking the story the entire time and the voices were laughable....like they should have been in a cartoon, just goofy. Again we had to dealt with different pronunciations of name and words. He was as bad as previous reviews said. I considered skipping it but didn't want to miss the progress of the story. It wasnt as good as the previous books (narrator aside) but events happened towards the end that are a game changer for the Dark Hunters. I'm totally invested in this series so it was worth the annoyance but not worth a credit. Unfortunately the next book is also read by this narrator....Ugh!

Seriously, Fred Bermann and Holter Graham are masters of their craft, wish one of them read the entire series! I prefer Fred but would take Holter over this clown any day.

Other PRN books I think are fantastic are anything by Jeaniene Frost, Heather Hunter's Irin Chronicles (really beautifully written and narrated), Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardian Series, Jacqueline Frank's Nightwalker Series, Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter Series, J. D. Tyler's Alpha Pack Series and Tessa Dawn's Blood Curse series (very dark take on vampires). Patricia Brigg's Alpha and Omega series is really good too, thou more just paranormal than a PRN, romance is subtle but totally worth a listen unless you require steam. Most of these are available in the Romance Package which is a bonus if you like to binge.

Fred Burman

Fred Berman is definitely my favorite narrator!! He has so many different accents and capabilities to differentiate the different characters. Not my favorite story, but still happy with it.

Narrator sucked!

This is a great example how a narrator can ruin a story. Hard to get through listening to this guy. I prefered the old narrator from the previous books in the series.

Love the book.. can't stand the audio.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I am absolutely a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon books. I've fallen in love with this series.. but the guy narrating it is not right for this series. I'm sorry.. just don't like his voice. When he does the female voices he sounds like Jim Carrey doing Venus De Milo.. can't stand it! I'm not finishing this book. I'll just have to actually read it myself so I can move on to the next one in the series.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Scott Brick?

Fred Berman should be narrator for all her books.

Any additional comments?

All of Sherrilyn Kenyons books... any series really.. should be narrated by the same person. The one thing that has ruined listening pleasure for this series is that the different narrators do not use the same pronunciations.. do not even bother checking the previous novels to see if the characters before had accents and what those accents were. Characters from before that had thick accents no longer have them in the future.. what is that? It's just not consistent. I almost didn't purchase the Acheron audible book because I was so disappointed they didn't get Berman for that book.. one of the most important ones in her series. Fred Berman by far is the absolute best for this series. I hope they keep that consistency in the future and employ him for future reads.

Loved the story, hated the narrator!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator! I actually really like the idea of a story in which we get to hear about-and at times even sympathize with-the series' antagonists (much like Styxx in that regard). Throughout most of the book though, I was so distracted by the narrator that it was difficult to appreciate Stryker's story!

Would you be willing to try another one of Scott Brick’s performances?

No way! The reviews I read made me hesitate to buy this book. In fact, I've listened to all of the Sherrilyn Kenyon books (except for the ones with bad narrator reviews) but there were some holes in the storyline I was curious about, so I finally bought it and man-oh-man, the reviews weren't exaggerating! The mocking, driveling, nasel tone of the performance was so hard to listen to! The woman were overly whiny and shrill and the men were either overdone or sounded mentally deficient. Throughout the whole book I found myself picturing how Fred Berman and Holter Graham would've said things.

Any additional comments?

Love the Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunter series, but if you're a first time listener of her books, don't start here! You probably won't make it past the reader to listen to another of her books!

important story progression, but the narrarator...

it is worth a listen because it has important info about the storyline but I am so sorry to say that the person reading just...... he really disappointed. if he reads these then I am so sorry if this is rude, but there were many pronunciation errors and while he did a good range of different voices, he made everyone sound so whiny. all of the men sounded like actually whining middle schoolers with reasonably deep voices.

anyways, still worth at least knowing the storyline.

Could not get over bad narration

Narrator has a good voice, but I have no idea what he was thinking, his extreme over exaggeration of characters voices just destroyed the book. I could not finish it.
