Publisher's summary

An io9 Can't Miss Science Fiction and Fantasy title in March 2014.

Martin Banks is just a normal guy who has made an abnormal discovery: he can manipulate reality, thanks to reality being nothing more than a computer program. With every use of this ability, though, Martin finds his little “tweaks” have not escaped notice. Rather than face prosecution, he decides instead to travel back in time to the Middle Ages and pose as a wizard.

What could possibly go wrong?

An American hacker in King Arthur’s court, Martin must now train to become a full-fledged master of his powers, discover the truth behind the ancient wizard Merlin…and not, y’know, die or anything.

Great narration with engaging story and humor

This isn't the type of book to change your life forever but for entertainment its one of my favorites. Has great nerdy humor but does not use it as a crutch for the story. Characters are likeable and the narration fits. Could not put it down until I was done. Great listen.

Surprisingly wonderful!

I really enjoyed this book! The performance was absolutely flawless, each voice was done brilliantly and really brought the story to life. I wasn't expecting much, and bought the book to help me sleep on a long plane ride, but ended up staying awake because I was so engrossed in the book. It was a great story and I can't wait for the next book!

Great narrator

The story was creative and interesting, but there seem to be a couple of plotholes. The narrator is awesome, though, Luke Daniels kills it with the character voices! I'm not quite sure if I want to listen to the second book, though, because I DETEST Jimmy and I wanted him gone forever :-(

Fun story! Excellent narration!

If you can get past the obvious plot holes and contrivances, and just accept this for the fun story that it is, you will really enjoy this.

I can't think of an audiobook with a better narrator- this one was fantastic!

A Little Corny But Good

I'm going to have a really hard time reviewing Off to Be the Wizard by Scott Meyer. Not that its a very complicated of stories. Really what it comes down to is that I have such mixed feelings about it. On one hand Off to Be the Wizard is a really clever book, but on the other I couldn't help but find parts of the book a bit corny.

Off to Be the Wizard follows Martin Banks a young guy in his 20's who finds a computer program that allows him to edit the world. He manages to change his bank account and starts spending money with no abandon. Two days later the feds are at his door ready to arrest him for banking fraud. Martin uses this found computer program to time travel back to medieval England to where he thinks he can use this program to become a wizard. Little does he know that he is far from the only person that found the computer program.

The tone of Off to Be the Wizard is very satirical. It's for anyone that grew up in the 80's-90's who love science fiction, fantasy, and video games. There are so many references to that sort of culture that if you don't enjoy it you won't want to read this book. For me it was something I really enjoyed but at times found it to be a little too much. Needless to say though I enjoyed myself enough throughout to make me at least contemplate continuing on with the series.

I have not laughed so much listening to a book in a long time. And it has a great story, too. I LOVE this book.

Nice but not Amazing

This book was funny and interesting to listen to but it's nothing extraordinary. It's definitely a good light book that made me laugh at times. Something that you should check out
