All over the place

I love Tananarive Due, My Soul to Keep was my first introduction to her work and I haven't regretted it. However, this book I feel like there were way too many characters to keep up with and the throwing in of characters from another book that I haven't read yet felt unnecessary. The time frames was confusing. What happened in the 10 years between the proposal and wedding? Why'd they do Johnny like that? Caitlin, the kid with Sickle cell?? I know every book will not wrap things up in a neat little bow, but this was kind of infuriating. If there is a book 5 just please focus it on Fana and Michel.

My Soul to Take

Very disappointing for the last book in the Black Immortals series!! The narration was horrible!! Now I've heard this narrator in other books, and enjoyed her, but this was not the book for her!! The voices of the Male characters all sounded like they were having issues breathing!! Fawna sounded far too much like a space cadet baby!! The story line definitely deviated to these 2 main character's trying to take a God like stance!! Not appreciated at all! Let's do a fifth to give the long term series readers a better ending!! Give Fawna a sister to set things right, and for pity sakes bring Caldoun out of hiding!!

Great book, poor performance

The performance was subpar. Ms. Mitchell failed to capture the African accents. The author changed some of the facts in the storyline, which was disappointing.

Satisfying

What made the experience of listening to My Soul to Take the most enjoyable?

Scintillating romance!!

What did you like best about this story?

The entire series is a testament to eternal love. Dawit showed us the depths of his passion in My Soul to Keep. Jessica rose as a heroine while living in the aftermath of Dawit's passion in The Living Blood. In Blood Colony, we experienced the flirtation of a new, young and potentially fatal love. My Soul to Take demonstrated the maturity of the individuals involved in the flirtation of book 3 and how that maturity allowed two beings that could have destroyed each other to happily coexist in a world of their choosing. It is a satisfying end to a beautiful circle of love, passion and consequences.

What aspect of Lizan Mitchell’s performance would you have changed?

She is not my favorite narrator. Luckily the story made it easy to get past the performance.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love, passion and consequences

Disappointed

I loved reading the first 2 books so much I decided to listen to them on audio books. I think the first 2 books were excellent and I enjoyed listening to them as much as reading them. The story was interesting and you could really get into the characters. The third book was ok not as good as the first 2 but not bad. this 4th book was a struggle to finish listening to. it seemed to be all over the place and difficult to follow. The same narrator should be used for all the books, its difficult getting use to a different voices with each book. The last narrator was really bad. I didn't enjoy her poor attempt to change her voice for the different characters and she often seemed to mispronounce some names especially Miguel. in book 3 he was called Michel not Miguel. In book 4 sometimes he was Miguel and sometimes Mikkel and sometimes other things. Her voice was not right for this book or these characters at all.

Awful Narrator, Good Book

I enjoyed all four books but this last one was hard to get through. The narrator did not pronounce the names correctly, and the voice impressions are just BAD and very distracting!! I do not know the process when it comes to making a decision to have someone narrate the books but the author(s) should really take into consideration that consistency means a lot. That is why I left audible the first time due to that issue. Again, overall the series is good.

Read at your own risk!

I was extremely disappointed by the narration and production of this book in particular. The change in voice and pronunciation of character names from the previous stories took my focus from the story. Also the storyline with Fawna and Michel was too overly dramatic. Neither of them were particularly likable so it was hard to care about what happened to them in the end. Jessica’s character also digressed and became slightly overbearing. This final volume did not live up to the previous editions. This was my second time reading this series. The first time was about 7 years ago and I actually read the books. I remember loving My Soul To Keep and The Living Blood but couldn’t remember the last two. I thought listening might be easier this time. It was, but again, the change in narrator disturbed me. Regardless of that the story just wasn’t powerful enough. Read at your own risk!
