Publisher's summary

A man must survive the zombie apocalypse armed with only a shotgun, a Samurai bat, and the will to live among the unliving in this horror series debut.

It’s been two years since civilization ended in an unstoppable wave of chaos and blood. Now, former house painter Augustus “Gus” Berry lives a day-to-day existence of waking up, getting drunk, and preparing for the inevitable moment when “they” will come up the side of his mountain and penetrate his fortress.

Living on the outskirts of Annapolis, Gus goes scavenging for whatever supplies remain in the undead suburbia below. Every time he descends the mountain could be his last. But when Gus encounters another survivor, he soon realizes the zombie horde may not be the greatest threat he faces . . .

Everything I want in a zombie series

Love the story. It's a humble and realistic imagining of what life would be like after an outbreak. Love the obsession with tp, that would be me. It can be a little bro-ie but not over poweringly. The anecdotal information on characters is nice and not belabored. The voice acting is on point.

"Smile from cheek to cheek"! Greatest undead story

Gus is the man, no doubt about it.
This is the best zombie storyline I have ever heard.
There's enough humor and character relatablility to balance out the gore that is necessary to write in this genre.
Laughing and cringing throught the entire series!

Over 200 books in my library, and I have still listened to this entire series many times.

8 out of 5 stars!!

Very good!

Any additional comments?

This is a very good series. It's basically just an every guy who got lucky and found a well supplied hideout after the apocalypse and then has been smart and careful enough to stay alive. There are some very creepy action scenes - very skin crawly - but most of the series is a slow build exploring the daily life and mind of a man who is surviving - mostly alone - alternating between extreme stress and monotony and slowly getting a bit nutty. My other favorite authors are JL Bourne and DJ Molles. If you are a fan of either or both of their series I think you will like this one as well.

"Realistic" zombie adventure

What did you love best about Mountain Man?

The real feel of it. It almost felt like what would really happen if a zombie apocalypse occurred.

Any additional comments?

I really liked the book. Not a huge fan of the way it ended. Sets up nicely for a next book in the series but I felt that it was a bit rushed...not in pace with the entire book. I was kind of left frustrated but this only ensures that I'll buy the next book to see how it resolves. Hope he makes it soon!

Stop reading this and buy the book!

I'm not going to waste a bunch of your time with a review. I'm just going to cut to the chase. This book was bad ass! The novel itself was great, and the performance made it even better. If I were you, I'd grab it up now, and enjoy every minute of it.

The author has already put out the next two books, but they aren't on Audible yet. Hurry up already!!!

Love the series. Hoping for more.

Really entertaining story. I love the narrator. I will be referring to toilet paper as anal gold from now on.

Mountain Man

Loved the story, truly a screwed up trip. I just wish someone would have proofed the reading. The constant mispronunciation of toque as toke was highly annoying.

Wow!!!

Just a suggestion for people that dig on zombie series. Keith C Blackmore does a great job in the Mountain man series! Just finished the series. Lotta screwed in the head characters in this series, a lot!! The "normal" zombie series it aint! Gus, the main character, I think, will remind everybody of someone they know. And the plot, well, I think its more "realistic" than most. Well, as realistic as can be in a work of fiction. I have bought a LOT of audible books. I listen to probably 5 books a a week, since I drive truck at night. Very seldom does a series hold my attention past one or two books. But this series?? I will probably listen to it more than once.

Really enjoyed this one

I am on a zombie kick right now. I have read some bad and some good. This on is on the good side. It was fast pace and quite enjoyable. None of the extra rambling. It does leave you hanging just a little so there is more than likely a part two I need to find out about.
