Publisher's summary

A man must survive the zombie apocalypse armed with only a shotgun, a Samurai bat, and the will to live among the unliving in this horror series debut.

It’s been two years since civilization ended in an unstoppable wave of chaos and blood. Now, former house painter Augustus “Gus” Berry lives a day-to-day existence of waking up, getting drunk, and preparing for the inevitable moment when “they” will come up the side of his mountain and penetrate his fortress.

Living on the outskirts of Annapolis, Gus goes scavenging for whatever supplies remain in the undead suburbia below. Every time he descends the mountain could be his last. But when Gus encounters another survivor, he soon realizes the zombie horde may not be the greatest threat he faces . . .

Surprise, the Zombie Apocalypse is no fun

Where does Mountain Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's among my favorites, and got me hooked on the series. Arguably, it's not the best of the whole set but it does get your attention and sets the stage for the journey ahead with Gus.

What other book might you compare Mountain Man to and why?

The closest comparison I could make is with the novel "I am Legend". One tortured man against the world who is trying to do the right thing but can't get out of his own way.

What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?

Bray's resonate and gritty voice make perfectly with the main character. He captures moments with great clarity and, in typical Bray form, makes you forget that he's reading to you as you immerse yourself into the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end is rather shocking and totally caught me by surprise the first time (I've listened to it multiple times). Don't want to give any spoilers.

Any additional comments?

It should be a part of the Zombie literature canon.

Really Good!

Not really a fan of the zombie genre.
But, this one is really good.
I almost listened to it in one sitting.
of course, RC Bray's simply outstanding narration helps a ton.
Highly recommended!

colorful and action packed realistic zombie fictio

Fun read if gore doesn't bother you too much. You grow to love the curmudgeonly protagonist who is a very real person in this post apocalyptic story.

A good kind of cheese.

Any additional comments?

This was an extremely cheesy story with some really corny dialogue. The writing wasn't the worst I've ever seen but it wasn't great either. Yet, I really liked this audio book, and thats's mainly because of R. C. Bray. Mountain Man is one of the best examples of how a not-so-great book can be turned into a pretty good audio book by a talented narrator. I listened to 'The Hospital' directly after this and it was good too. I plan on hearing more of this series in the future.

Slow start to an OK story.

What made the experience of listening to Mountain Man the most enjoyable?

The narrator.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Well, the idiot main character had 2 YEARS to learn survival basics. First aid, outdoor cooking/camping etc. What does he do? He drinks..... Idiot.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Scott having to kill his family was terrible.

Good Zombie Book

Good story. Was it the best I've read, no probably not. But it's definitely worth checking out and it keeps you interested. R.C.Bray is a great narrator.
Worth the credit.
