Publisher's summary

Mother, wife, private investigator... vampire. Six years ago, federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now the world at large thinks Samantha has developed a rare skin disease, a disease which forces her to quit her day job and stay out of the light of the sun. Now working the night shift as a private investigator, Samantha is hired by Kingsley Fulcrum to investigate the murder attempt on his life, a horrific scene captured on TV and seen around the country. But as the case unfolds, Samantha discovers Kingsley isn't exactly what he appears to be; after all, there is a reason why he survived five shots to the head.

Surprising Good

J.R. Rain's novel is about a woman who is a housewife, soccer mom & vampire, plus a Private Investigator at night and her self serving SOB of a husband who cannot handle what happened when his wife was attacked by a vampire one evening.

I love this woman as she goes though self discovery of being a vampire. Her best friend is a werewolf defense attorney and I love that the vampire hunter in the end and the police officer she was working with all seem to respect her.

This is book one of series. It should be interesting as to where the writer will be taking us.

Seriously, couldn’t she have gotten rid of Danny? She’s a vampire for goodness sakes. That was just ehh.

The fact that the husband and the sister was so understanding at the fact that she turn a vampire.

To much metaphor/comparisons instead of getting to the story. overall I love it and is very interested to see sam get her grove back with the wearwolf.

A solid 4 star, too short for 5 stars

I found it a little odd how the author added in so many "musings" about the nature of Sam's vampirism - not the source of it (that's not really disclosed) but what it means to be a vampire: if she's still human, if she's still alive, etc... these musings were sorta merged into other goings-on - such as a baseball game - which had no point in the story other than to provide a venue for these musings to be explored.

But this didn't detract from the story, which is a little bit of a mystery combined with a vampire-finding-herself story. There was a tiny romantic thread, but no sex (uncommon for this genre of book where the sex is usually quite graphic), and only the occasional bad word (also uncommon). I liked the story more than I thought I should - there is a bit of angst that develops out of the personal strife that Sam has to overcome, and the story's mystery was reasonable.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, even though it's a bit on the short side, and I'm going to start the next in the series right away. (It's not a cliff-hanger novel that makes you *have* to get the next one to see what happens, but if you want to find out how Sam deals with how her vampirism affects her life, you'll want to keep reading.) The narration was reasonable but a bit on the "breathy" side... I assume the narrator will settle into the role better as the books continue.

Enjoyable

Where does Moon Dance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoyed Moon Dance and the thoughts of a FBI agent/wife/mother turned vampire against her will and learning to live with it.

What did you like best about this story?

Liked her new romance, since her husband treated her so bad.

What does Dina Pearlman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like her voice. Enjoyed her narration.

Any additional comments?

Really enjoyed this book, different than other vampire type books I have read/listened too. Looking forward to others in this series.

Really enjoying this

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would. I really like the main character.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Samantha Moon of course. I love that even though she is a vampire, she is still mostly an everyday house wife with kids to tend to. She is very relatable. Even though she is tough, like all the female characters in the vampire novels, she seems like she could be you if you were in her shoes...

Which scene was your favorite?

When she meets the gang members while out jogging

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when she confronts her husband about his affair. She is very real and it's so easy for me to relate to her. We are the same age, both have kids, etc. So when she feels pain, you feel it...

Sam winning her boxing match!

No I haven't yet.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved when Sam had to leave her kids

good listen

i enjoyed this book. I've always been a fan of vampire stories and movies. This was a little different spin. The narrator did an excellent job. I stayed engaged throughout the entire story. I'll be listening to more in this series for sure!

Nice short story,

Nice short story (under 20 hours is short in my thinking). Nicky developed, differently written in a style as an introduction to more stories, as in the tradition as a weekly vampire detective adventure show. Light and uncomplicated.
