Mercy Thompson's life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn't exactly normal herself.

Great starter

I love this series!

I have every book. I enjoy the supporting characters as much as Mercy. They are strong by themselves and only add to the plotline. Do this series alone or follow the blended community of characters in the werewolf world. The timeline of Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega.

Patricia Briggs gives you a list of multifaceted flawed heroes to root for. The completed series takes place in a short span of linear time. Sometimes other critics don't acknowledge this fact and expect human growth of the heroes to occur in leaps and bounds. Being heroic means sometimes facing your fears with tears streaming down your face. It is rare that you are that stalwart when facing your probably death. It acknowledges that you don't want to die but you are willing to sacrifice yourself for someone or some ideal more important. This is the imaginary world she has created!

Descent but NOT awful

I rather enjoyed the story. Having that said, I have a few minor issues with this story. The plot seemed disjointed to me in places. Like it was originally written like episodic set of stories. There was a small subplot with a couple of gay characters which didn't add to the story in the least. (yawn) 🙄😒 *A bit per "wokeness" before that was a thing yet?... Also the dialogue was sort of clunky between each character.
Can't say I'm a huge fan of "Urban Fantasy" but the premise is an interesting concept. But overall the story was pretty good and I'll probably listen/read book 2. I'm giving the story a 3-5 stars. Hopefully the story begins to pick up?

We’ll written and enjoyable

Reads like the minimum effort work of a talented writer. Heroine is likable and well crafted but not particularly complicated. Lots of room to grow in the sequels.

I can’t stop listening

I have never liked audio books because their voices always made me sleepy but not Lorelei king. She has an amazing voice and a great talent for reading a story.

Read and listened to over and over

I really love this series! It is light, fun, sassy,.. I love Mercy and her sneaky underhanded snark delivered with an innocent look on her face. I have listened to this and the Alpha Omega series many times. This isn't some deep thoughtful read that requires intense focus. It is something that makes me laugh and snicker even though I have heard it a few times (or more). Lorelei King does an excellent job of delivering the snark, giving everyone a distinct voice and making the listen wonderful. She can read for me any day!
This is really a fun read/listen!

Strong female main character

Mercy is a strong female character who has real flaws real personality. I love the series no matter if I'm reading it in print or listening to it as I do things around the house. Mercy is a realistic female lead that is refreshing.

A Favorite!

This is a book/series that I have loved for quite a while. It's probably one of my very favorite! I was thrilled when it finally came out in audio. The reader is fantastic! Now I just hope that books 2 & 3 are released on audio soon!

As a side note, please don't judge the book by the cover. It is an edgy urban fantasy, but not a romance.
