Publisher's summary

Cryptid, noun:

1. Any creature whose existence has been suggested but not proven scientifically. Term officially coined by cryptozoologist John E. Wall in 1983.

2. That thing that's getting ready to eat your head.

3. See also: "monster."

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity - and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and when her work with the cryptid community took her to Manhattan, she thought she would finally be free to pursue competition-level dance in earnest. It didn't quite work out that way...

But now, with the snake cult that was killing virgins all over Manhattan finally taken care of, Verity is ready to settle down for some serious ballroom dancing - until her on-again, off-again, semi-boyfriend Dominic De Luca, a member of the monster-hunting Covenant of St. George, informs her that the Covenant is on their way to assess the city's readiness for a cryptid purge. With everything and everyone she loves on the line, there's no way Verity can take that lying down.

Alliances will be tested, allies will be questioned, lives will be lost, and the talking mice in Verity's apartment will immortalize everything as holy writ - assuming there's anyone left standing when all is said and done. It's a midnight blue-light special, and the sale of the day is on betrayal, deceit...and carnage.

More action in book 2

Book 2 beats Book 1 hands down. Now we are familiar with the characters, the world building etc. I devoured this book. It was so good. Excited to read/listen to more in this series. I loved everything about this book. The narrator really brought the characters and setting to life in a tangible way.

Best book in the series so far!

Loved the plot, loved the improved in-depth characterization development. The narrator was better this time, but she still needs to learn how to correctly pronunciate some words. A smart phone dictionary app would help with that. ;)

Now on to book 3!

Crazy Cryptic Mayhem.

Another fun installment for the cryptid world Seanan Mcguire has created. There is plenty action with enough humor this story went by fast. I like the characters and look forward to listening to the rest of the series. I give it 4 stars because of the amount of eye rolling I did when Verity was doing her free running and jumping from building to building thing, but if you can suspend disbelief over that part this is a good story. The is romance in the story but its mild. Part of the book wasn’t just from Verity’s point of view but Sarah’s, which was an interesting change. The narrator is a bit valley girl sounding but as the story progressed I got use to her and felt that she did fit the character.

good follow up to discount armageddon

I love all Ms. Maguire's books and feel she writes a strong narrative. I was a trifle underwhelmed by the first few chapters; dominic was so clearly her HEA that their dithering about it slowed the narrative for me. however, once the action starts it really starts and she can write action, and even torture so viscerally that I found it painful, even though she doesn't get anywhere near the grisly details. she says just enough to draw you in and make it easier to hate the covenant of St. George. They do evoke the Inquisition in their excuse for being inhumane in the defense of humanity.

Seanan Mcguire ROCKS, Bauer is getting better!

Seanan Mcguire writes another terrific installment of the InCryptid series, and Emily Bauer is getting a much better grasp on the vocabulary required to be able to perform these books.

Book 2 - Still Good

I still enjoyed it. The mice are just adorable and I could see a spin-off there. But the main character is still great and I still could't guess how things would turn out. Thanks for being outside the box on your storyline and plot. I love that about this author and will definitely be waiting to buy another book.

Got a little whiny

Was a little whiny. For a few chapters, I thought I was listening to a crying drunk.
