Publisher's summary

In 1926, the American version of the film classic Metropolis was cut in half, now for the first time in seventy years you can experience the whole story. A very important book in the development of the audiobook industry. The music and sound effects are piped through differant speakers so the listener gets the surround sound or 3-D effect. The futuristic music alone (and the listener's imagination) tells part of the story without any words describing the action. The end result: a virtual reality like you've never experienced before.

Critic reviews

"Metropolis is brought to unbelievable heights in this audio movie masterpiece."
"Bob E. Flick has returned to the days of radio drama where their sound and your imagination alone created the visuals." (Starlog Magazine)
"Jolly good job!" (Arthur C. Clarke)

Awesome

As someone who loves the Fritz Lang classic film, this was an amazing story to hear unfold. I've watched the film and few times before and I still couldn't understand several parts of it. I suppose it's something due to there being no voice actors, mistranslations, or the lack of dialogue on the title cards. I won't go too deep here, so let's just say this will help you understand most of the movie. Of course there are several things that were changed and removed for the film version, but that doesn't negatively affect anything. It's like an extended cut of a modern movie.

Perfect Companion To The Movie

Metropolis, like 2001: A Space Odyssey, is one of those films which is best appreciated alongside the novel.

This production is a surprisingly faithful adaptation of the original novel written by the wife of film's director. As such it delves deeper into the story than the film does. Taken together they provide a much richer experience than either does alone.

This is not the novel

This is not a reading or dramatization of Von Harbou’s novel. It is some sort of radio play-style adaptation of the movie. So be warned. If you’re a Metropolis fanatic you may want to add this to your collection out of curiosity, but it is NOT an audio book.
