Not the Best Book About Superpowers But Ok

I had three problems with this book.
1. The Tom Reynolds should not have narrated this book. His performance was boring and his voices were silly. Not the worst narrator ever but the book would be improved if someone better voiced it.
2. Weak diologe There is a pharagraph of innermonologe between every phrase that they conversations never seem to get a rythem going.
3. Spends more time world building than actually telling the story. for a book that 6 hours not I felt like most of the time was spent world building and establishing the rules of how the meta powers work which would be fine but the book just ends as soon as you start getting some explaination. The main character just stumbles his way thorough the plot.

Overall It was an ok take on the superhero genre but there are book that have done it better. I would recomend Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson over this book. If you have already read that and are look for more this won't completely scratch that itch but it is good enough to keep you entertained on a rainy day. I will probably continue the story but I am hoping Tom made some improvements on the second book. It is a few hours longer and won't have to set up as much back story so I am hopeful.

Cool take on superhero origin tale!

I enjoyed this listen and appreciate the angle Reynolds is taking regarding the origin of the Metas! I’m certainly looking forward to the next installment.

Great read!

This is my first Tom Reynolds’s read. I’m extremely impressed with his talent. The story line was a tad bit cliche’, but aren’t ALL superhero stories?
Overall, it was great, but the narration should be done by a seasoned professional.

Like a comic book without pictures

Entertaining book with a lot of potential. The way the story is told is almost like reading a comic and forming the picture in your head, I really enjoyed the way you followed the main character around in his new life as a meta, but I felt there were a few points missing. not enough in depth about some of the other characters like his 'best friend' you learn next to nothing about him. I get that he's not that important of a character, but it almost seems like he was just thrown in to have someone tell him about the fight and to have a reason be in the woods the first night. A few other plot points here and there, but overall a nice read. I will probably pick up the next book also at some point.

All in all this is a great book. It could have been better with a differant narrator

horrible performace

pounds the p, slithers the s, background noise, at times it sounded like the actor was chewing on something when speaking, and voice droned on.

I had originally read the ebook a while back and when looking for something to listen to saw this one and figured I'd give it a listen to. was disappointed second time around.

Solid piece of work

I've been slowly devouring superhero stories for a few years now, intending to eventually write my own. I'm not a comic book reader, but I'm aware of a lot of those stories. Tom Reynolds has created a very decent set of characters and story here. In some ways it reminded me of the Scions series, but I don't think that's a fair comparison. This story was more unique. The premise of metabands is an interesting twist. I wouldn't have used it but I think that's what makes this story cool. It doesn't mirror widely known comic book heroes so obviously, like other books.

Overall, I enjoyed this one immensely. I would have rated higher but I do have some bits I wished were tighter: I think Tom's voice acting isn't as entertaining as in other audiobooks, but then, he isn't a trained voice actor as far as I know. ( I appreciate being able to hear his words actually being spoken by him, for what it's worth.) I enjoy hearing different voices to more clearly define who's speaking, when possible. The power set for our MC is widely varied but aside from the teleportation thing, seems an awful lot like Superman. Still waiting to see if he has laser eyes. The frozen touch is kinda like freeze breath I guess. His mentor seems a lot like Batman. (Hence my Scions comment earlier.)

This is sounding negative. I really enjoyed this book. Tom did a good job and I respect the hell out of him for not objectifying his female characters while still having the male ones express appreciation, attraction, or crushes. This is definitely not a harem story, and I have fallen for Tom because of this. It's clear that he respects women a lot more than other male authors of superhero stories. Good job Tom.

I can't wait to listen to the next one. I suppose it is going to get increasingly difficult to write a unique superhero story, given the saturation in the market over the past several decades. I like Tom. He's my new favorite author right now.

Tom, if you're reading this, I would love to talk to you and maybe meet you someday. I think that would be cool. For now, I will look you up on social media and tell people how cool your first book is.

Unique and engaging. Can’t wait to listen to the next one!

I started this just to support a host from my favorite podcast, but was a little surprised at how good it was. Unique angle on super heroes and engaging throughout the entire thing. Can’t wait to get the next in the series!
