Publisher's summary

First we were mesmerized by the Women of the Otherworld. Now it's time to learn all about the men who love those supernatural women!

As a curious six-year-old, Clayton didn't resist the bite - he asked for it. But surviving as a lone child-werewolf was more than he could manage - until Jeremy came along, taught him how to straddle the human-werewolf worlds...and introduced him to the Pack. So begins this tantalizing volume featuring three of the most intriguing members of the American Pack - a hierarchical founding family where bloodlines mean everything and each day presents a new, thrilling, and often deadly challenge.

For as Clayton grows from a wild child to a clever teen who tests his mentor at every turn, he must learn not only to control his animal instincts but to navigate Pack politics - including showing his brutal arch nemesis who the real Alpha is.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Lost star due to division of book

The book itself, it is a five-star book; it's the division of the book that takes a star. The performance is excellent and the stories are excellent.

It is fine to divide the audiobook/book, but dividing it in the middle of the chapter then putting in the introduction all over again to interrupt the entire flow of the book is irritating. I don't know why Amazon decided to do this but I wish they would figure something else out so that they don't interrupt the flow of the story to increase the speed of downloads. I prefer a longer download. Also, when they did this, they deleted every single bookmark I had put in there. I had to bookmark the chapters of the book because Amazon will not.

Amazon, do something different. If you're going to divide the audiobook, don't interrupt the flow of the story with the introduction on the second part; just continue the story. Also, don't undo the bookmarks patrons take a few hours to put in.

There are three stories in the book. One is about Jeremy's conception so you get to see his mother and you discover what supernatural has been added to Jeremy to allow him to do what he does. The second book is about Clayton told from Clay's point of view. It runs from when he was bitten to when Malcolm left the pack. This story is the longest and is my favorite story of all of them. Jeremy as a parent is interesting. The last book is about Jeremy meeting the people from his mother's side of the family told from Jeremy's point of view.

Would I recommend this book? Definitely if you like Jeremy. He is the common thread through the book. If you want to see how Clay was raised by Jeremy, this is your book.

Her best yet

I am a huge fan of the Otherworld series. This book completely redeemed my faith in Kelley because I felt her last novel (Living With the Dead) was a flop. I understand Clayton now and he has become my favorite character. (Previously, it was Savannah, if that helps any) I wish I read this before Bitten because it gives a huge amount of background to the stories of Elena. It should be listed as a prequel. The narrator was excellent; they couldn't have chosen better. You won't regret using a credit for this book.

Nice to hear men POV

Enjoyed the main story. When it jumped to Jeremy and Jamie I was disappointed that the audiobook ended literally in the middle of a scene while Jeremy was speaking and action hadn’t been resolved.

Werewolf coming-of-age story!

This first book of a new series is a first-person account of Clayton’s life from age six to his early twenties. Jeremy found Clayton in a swamp making the best of a horrible situation. Jeremy brought Clayton home, adopted him, educated and taught him the ways of being a werewolf in the human world. It’s a wonderful werewolf coming-of-age story. Clayton is quite a handful, intelligent, funny, and a quick temper towards those who pose a threat. The tale includes much background and interaction between Jeremy and his father. His father was a tyrant and coincidentally, the one who drove Clayton to the swamp. References are made to incidents from the other series, ie., Women of the Otherworld, but this novel can stand on its own.

Very good

The story was very well written and original. It ended with more questions than answers; who’s is frustrating.

Domestication of Wolves to Men

Courtesy of Lost Art Audiobook Review

This audiobook is read by Charles Leggett. I haven’t listened to his narration before, but he’s very competent with the voices, which are almost exclusively male in this collection. His Cajun accent seems alright, but I’m not very familiar with the way it’s supposed to sound. His general reading is sincere and believable. My only criticism is that I had a hard time between the external and internal dialogue from Clayton’s point of view. For example, when Jeremy takes Clayton to the airport, Clayton recognizes a plane, but I did not realize he said it out loud until Jeremy responded. Kind of makes you wonder how much of the internal dialogue was really internal.

There are three parts to this collection. The first starts with a third-person narration of how Malcolm met Jeremy’s mother, which is a rather brutal story but interesting. The best part of the collection was definitely the second – Clayton’s story told from his point of view. As hard it as it is to empathize with Malcolm is how smooth it is to slip into Clayton’s story. The third part is Jeremy’s discovery of his mother’s people. Even though the cover of the collection hints at sex, and man-on-man at that, this is actually the only section that has it, and really only hints at it between Jeremy and Jaime, which is nice, but not quiet as explosive as Clayton and Elena’s relationship in the series. This is actually the part I missed most about the collection – not the sex, but the relationship between Clayton and Elena from Clayton’s perspective. If you’re familiar with the series, Clayton turned Elena basically against her will. The more we know of Clayton throughout the series, including in this collection, the less that particular moment makes sense. I was hoping to get that moment from Clayton’s perspective, but that’s not in the story.

Loved this - read it AFTER Bitten!

Great to hear about Clayton and Jeremy's relationship before Bitten. Loved having the history of the pack! Hope there is another one ASAP!
