Publisher's summary

Cop and conjurer of demons, she's a woman in danger of losing control - to a power that could kill....

"Why me? Why now?" That’s what Beaulac, Louisiana, detective Kara Gillian was asking herself when an angelic creature named Rhyzkahl unexpectedly appeared during a routine summoning. Kara was hoping to use her occult skills to catch a serial killer, but never had she conjured anything like this unearthly beautiful and unspeakably powerful being whose very touch set off exquisite new dimensions of pleasure. But can she enlist his aid in helping her stop a killer who’s already claimed the lives - and souls - of 13 people? And should she?

The Symbol Man is a nightmare that the city thought had ended three years ago. Now he's back for an encore and leaving every indication on the flesh of his victims that he, too, is well versed in demonic lore. Kara may be the only cop on Beaulac’s small force able to stop the killer, but it is her first homicide case. Yet with Rhyzkahl haunting her dreams, and a handsome yet disapproving FBI agent dogging her waking footsteps, she may be in way over her head.

expected more

After reading the white trash zombie series I expected a lot more from this book but Diana Rowland didn't cut it for me.
The story was painfully tedious and dull because of the main character acting as if she was oh so tough and intelligent and I don't know why but it bothered me a lot... And I can't recall if in the white trash zombie series she used "fuck" so much but it sounded just right and funny and in this book it was a torture because she used it too much and it sounded off... I don't know if it was because of the character or the narrator but either way it was exhausting.
I wanted to return this book almost at the beginning of it but I pull my will to finish it, since I don't like to leave a book unfinished, but thank goodness it doesn't have a cliffhanger or anything because that way I don't have to buy the next one...

Good Book, Good Performance

This book makes me think of Eve Dallas (In Death series by JD Robb), gone paranormal. I've enjoyed the story and the narrator's performance so much that I've downloaded the whole series in the last 5 days.

The story isn't complex, but the vocabulary level is slightly above average when compared to similar others in this genre. At the same time, the "F word" is used frequently. I found that a strange but charming paradox.

I think this is my first experience with narrator, Liv Anderson, but her voice is calm and well-paced.

Good believability!

This was a gear first book for this series! I thoroughly enjoyed the way the main character was always one-upping everything she was involved in.

I am in love with another series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this audiobook to friends. The book is exciting and is action packed for me. I knew as soon as i was in the middle of the book I would purchase the next book in the series. I am excited about all of the characters and the best thing is that you really don't know what is coming next. I was always anxiously waiting for the next scenes of the book.

What other book might you compare Mark of the Demon to and why?

I have no books to compare to this. This is the very first in this subject are I have listened to and I really like.

Which character – as performed by Liv Anderson – was your favorite?

The main character Kara Gillian. I like the way all of the characters work within the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was excited about all of the book. I really liked all of the book. This is really rare for me. I really believe if i was not give, the opportunity to learn more about other series. I would have never listened to this audiobook. If it weren't for the special opportunity offered by audible this treasure would have never been found. Thank you audible.

Any additional comments?

I love the book and plan to purchase all of the books in the series and also listen to the other book the author has at audible this time.

I struck silver with this one.

What made the experience of listening to Mark of the Demon the most enjoyable?

The story was really good for the most part, but the one thing that I felt this book could do without was the sex. The story is about a newbie homicide detective( that seems to drop the f-bomb more times than a drunken sailor) that is demon summoner, and gets her chance at a serial killer known as the "Symbol Man". So she does what any summoner cop needing answers would do, Summon a demon. Well things go weird, and then enter the sex! the story could of been just fine with no sex but thankfully it wasn't a whole lot of it in the story.

The best part of the book was the fact that the story is a who done it, that is not very easy to figure it, out. I almost all of this book except for the few sex scenes in it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mark of the Demon?

The best part of the book for me was the ending, The book twist and turns of much and then blind sides you with the ending. It makes the whole journey so worth wild.

What does Liv Anderson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The great the part of Liv Anderson's reading it that this book was written in the first person, and she brings you deeper into the story.

I enjoyed the story

It took a few chapters to get used to the narrator's cadence but eventually it grew on me. I did love the story itself and look forward to the next books in the series.
