Publisher's summary

Roger Ramius Sergei Chiang MacClintock was young, handsome, athletic, an excellent dresser, and third in line for the Throne of Man. So it wasn't surprising that he became spoiled, self-centered, and petulant. After all, what else did he have to do with his life?

But that was before his mother, the empress, packed him off to a backwater planet and he found himself shipwrecked on the planet Marduk, with jungles full of damnbeasts, killerpillars, carnivorous plants, and barbarian hordes of bad disposition. Fortunately, Roger had an ace in the hole: Bravo Company of Bronze Battalion of the Empress' Own Regiment. Now all Roger has to do is hike halfway around the planet, capture a spaceport from the Bad Guys, commandeer a starship, and go home.

Don't miss the rest of the action in the Prince Roger Series.

2 GREAT WRITERS 1 FANTASTIC STORY

Both writers do a wonderful job writing separately, but it adds so much more
when they join up.This book takes it's time in the set up, and the main character
seems to be an unlikeable dweeb.

Just like in other Weber and Ringo novels plenty of interesting action takes
place. As the story progress we find this unlikeable prince marooned on
a distant planet . The military guard assigned to protect him all believe him a
spoiled peacock, but prince Roger surprises them all.

As usual Stefan Rudniki does a fantastic job of narrating this book. He brings
each of the characters to life.

Very enjoyable story

I almost didn't download this one, given some of the reviews below, but decided to give it a try anyway. I'm really glad I did. I thought the character development was quite good (remember -- this is science fiction!), and the descriptions of the advanced (and primitive) technology were excellent. The authors obviously spent the time to research the details of much of the science involved, with extrapolations that seem reasonable. The story line had plenty of twists and turns, so I didn't lose interest. The story was fast paced and intense. I already have the next one in my cart!

Loved it

I am not a big fan of space science fiction stories. I tend to like more fantasy driven science fiction novels that include magic. However, this novel is an exception. The book seems like a cross between star wars and starship troopers. The reader is excellent, the characters are likable and the story plot is engaging. The march upcountry is about an arrogant prince who is forced into a situation where he must cross an alien planet full of hostile creatures. His character develops along the way and soon you'll find yourself rooting for his success. Give it a try, it's only a credit!

Well thought out scifi book

Characters are not flat, world seems realistic and advanced tech users are stranded on a mudball

My Favorite Series by Weber!

My headline is saying a lot because Weber obviously includes the Honor Harrington series, but the combination of this series plot as the books progress with Stefan Rudnicki narrating it takes the championship belt in his world & even in many Sci-Fi books. There are def. more in-depth & complex books both metaphysical & poetic, BUT this series which I could easily classify as young adolescent that can cross into the adult series if u really listen to how Weber uses the tech level of the humans to conquer the problems that are placed before them.

The book is basically about a snot-nosed prince who is not only a bastard child but also 3rd in line of succession in his royal family & his mother not only doesn't trust him they have a serious communication problem. After an assassination attempt on him he ends up on a low tech planet filled with all sorts of things that find humans yummy... he slowly realizes what it means to be a soldier, a leader, a ruler through a surrogate 'father' of sorts who is also his commanding officer... Weber as always is not afraid to kill off many people in unique & graphic ways, but in the end 'peace thru excessive firepower' is just one of the rules they take from 'The Art of War' as they have to walk across an entire planet while things at home in his kingdom change drastically when he is gone & assumed dead...

There is suppose to be a couple other books after 'We Few' but I have not heard anything about it yet, but I am looking forward to it. The book is just a great, easy read, with the ability to expand ur ideas about how technology effects a civilization & if the tech levels are relatively close in regards to how milestones effect said civilization, for example, attacking in hoards, attacking in formations & discipline, the introduction of armor, the introduction of gunpowder, etc...

Like I said, these 4 books may not be the most in-depth, complex, futuristic look into how society changes but a great book about fighting for the fellow brother/sister next to u in arms & how humans come to run the majority of the universe in the future. HIGHLY recommend this series if u want a great sci-fi book u will prob read really quickly

a part of me

where would I be without the trials and tribulations of Prince Rodger and the empress's OWN. this is a story for the ages this is an inspiration four generation and it saddens me that it does not get equal recognition with Ender's Game and Starship Troopers. for where both of those stories lie deeply in the theory of command. this story struggles through the hardships of living on the edge of obliteration and going forward for no practical reason but because you've sworn to do so. it's also how to turn a clothes horse into a Tiddly officer.

A Classic in it's Own Right

If you haven't read David Weber and John Ringo's Empire of Man series, you're missing out on one of the best coming of age stories of all time, not to mention a kick ass bit of military science fiction.
