Publisher's summary

Roger Ramius Sergei Chiang MacClintock was young, handsome, athletic, an excellent dresser, and third in line for the Throne of Man. So it wasn't surprising that he became spoiled, self-centered, and petulant. After all, what else did he have to do with his life?

But that was before his mother, the empress, packed him off to a backwater planet and he found himself shipwrecked on the planet Marduk, with jungles full of damnbeasts, killerpillars, carnivorous plants, and barbarian hordes of bad disposition. Fortunately, Roger had an ace in the hole: Bravo Company of Bronze Battalion of the Empress' Own Regiment. Now all Roger has to do is hike halfway around the planet, capture a spaceport from the Bad Guys, commandeer a starship, and go home.

Don't miss the rest of the action in the Prince Roger Series.

Good book, superb reader

Any additional comments?

Stefan Rudnicki is one of my favorite readers for military fiction. His voice is calm and relentless (appropriate for military), showing little emotion and yet somehow conveying the character's emotions and intentions. He is very good at distinguishing the different characters. Each of the species on Marduk has its own way of speaking. In addition, each character has his own way of speaking within that dialect. Truly amazing! In the final book of the trilogy, there are three Terran military personnel. I can tell instantly which one is speaking. Some readers do this by having one lisp, or have a hoarse voice - Mr. Rudnicki doesn't have to resort to such cheap tricks. Highly recommended!

My only complaint is that in the early chapters, Roger is not whiny enough. Very minor complaint for such a long, intricate book.

Love to hate the protagonist, then fall in love

Where does March Upcountry rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best audiobooks I have read...listened to....in the last four months.

What did you like best about this story?

I was so enthralled by the story that i would get to work, park the car and then stay there until a logical break and I love to work so that tells you how involved I was in the story.

What about Stefan Rudnicki’s performance did you like?

Strong passionate voice that makes the character flow easy to follow. I can't wait to listen to more of his performances.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This was a book that I wanted to listen to all at once, but then I wanted to savour it...Oh, the agony of it all! It is the only time that I have wanted to get stuck in traffic so I could listen to more of the story.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to the next episode of the story. It's going to be great if it is only half as good as this one.

What a ride!

Very seldom do I re-listen to a series of books. The Prince Rodger Series is definately one I'll look forward to listening too a third time. They are full of detail and research... The writer does his homework.

Most science fiction is completely untied to the past with little to no research as it's all couched in fantasy. However, this writer (or writers) appears to pepper the work with retrspective science and phillosophy about weapons, weaponry, war tactics, sociology, anthropology, religion and history. This all works to bring a super advanced weaponry of the future into a realistic and tangible picture that we can all grasp... and the wars they wage... what a fantastic ride this is. If you love action and wierd alien landscapes, you'll love this entire series. The series smacks of person experience, like the writer has actually been through all this - like he graduated from West Point.

among the best of the best! If you like awesome

among the best of the best! If you like awesome Acton without a ton of excessive not necessary fill-in details to make a book longer, you will totally love this series! You will not find your mind wandering off in Ford thought about other stuff while listening to this book!

Great story but it Needs editing fixing

I like the story. Repeated text was an unnecessary jarring addition. Edit only to fix this and bring it to 5 stars.

This is an amazing series!

The first of four Amazing parts of a series by two powerful authors. I really wish they would have continued the series further.

I have read and now listened to this whole series about a dozen times and every time the evolution of the main character and vibrant supporting characters, leave me still on the edge of my seat.

I have read Honor Harrington and Horatio Hornblower series and many others but this is about a character growing into a man from a spoiled boy. Not just a man but a man you and others can admire.

One of the best

One of the best titles to be found in the entire genre. A huge, well written story arc populated by likeable, well developed characters, this is one I've come back to several times over the years. This an excellent example of what you get by bringing together Mr. Ringo and Mr. Weber, two of the best in the business. You will be entertained.
