Publisher's summary

Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job. She may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she's still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be - now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate's mate.

So when Atlanta's premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. Turns out this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it - fast, or the city and everyone dear to her might pay the ultimate price.

Another wonderful additon

This book is another solid addition to the series. Kate finds out more about her mother's side of the family and some painful truth. At the same time the relationship with Curran is becoming more solid. I was surprised and delighted by the choice Curran made to Kate. One of the most romantic gestures I've ever read! You know then that he truly loves Kate no matter what over anything and anybody.

This series and the Dresden series are the only series I buy both the printed and the audiobook version as soon as they come out. They are that good ! I like to listen to the books first because that way I don't miss a word. I tend to read really fast and I usually don't savor every word the first time around. BUT I just couldn't wait this time and I've already read the printed version...So please if possible, could you release the audiobook version at the same time as the book?

And when IS the next book coming out??

Oh Kate!

Listened for Fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.25
Story Rating: 4.50
Character Rating: 4.00

Audio Rating: 5.00 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: Other than the unnecessary relationship drama in Kate's head (at least she calls herself on it) Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews was another KICK ASS addition to the series. I am just plowing through these (I am going to regret it when I have to wait with everyone else). Loved the fighting and the detective agency. Can't wait to see where the story goes now!

Love the book & author, hate the narration!

I love this series & this last book was as good as I was expecting. But listening to this was so frustrating. I was tempted to quit it several times to just read it instead so I could enjoy it fully. Very disappointing.

Entertainment

The Ilona Andrews team does it again with another entertaining story with plenty of action and a side of sexual tension. I adore this series and will keep coming back for more.

♡ LOVE IT ♡

All the books in the Kate Daniels series are well-written and love the voice for the audio books. This series has become one of my favorite audio books. I have listened to this book and others in the series several times and can't wait for more books.♡ ♡

Raudman rocks!

I like to read these books. I LOVE to listen to them even more. Curran has such depth the way that Raudman voices him.

Such a good book!

First of all this book runs its reader through a maze of emotions. Doubt, love, rage, and sorrow with a touch of humor. Be prepared for this dramatic roller coaster ride.
Kate is now starting to learn her trade and coming to realisethe need to grasp her magic with both hands.
Curran is adapting to the roll of mate and getting a grip on how to be the best mate for Kate.
Absolutely marvellous!

Kate Daniels, still growing in complexity

Granted, this is only the fifth book in the Kate Daniels series, but I'm more than favorably impressed with the way the authors continue to build Kate's world and relationships. Book 5 has Kate edging nearer to a place where many of these urban fantasy books lose my interest . . . a character that becomes superhuman (a condition Kate may be approaching due to her heritage) is often either doomed or ultimately less interesting. But to date Kate has added adopted family, a single main love interest (very refreshing!) and continues to develop meaningful friendships with others. There are a few moments of "dead air" in book five, but overall moved the story along well.

A comment about the narrator -- she's bearable when she's just reading; when she gets faux-emotional or tries to do odd accents it's cringe-inducing. Another narrator would have made the audio series shoot to the five-star mark for me.

Gets better and better

If you could sum up Magic Slays in three words, what would they be?

Kate kicks butt

Which scene was your favorite?

When Kate confronted Jennifer. When Andrea showed up. When Curran tore the cars up.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I'm prett addicted to these characters at this point so I feel very invested in everything that happens to them.

Any additional comments?

I wanted to make not of Renee Raudman. She's incredible. There are a lot of characters over these 5 books. She has given special voice to each one. I never have difficulty knowing who's speaking. Also the male voices are wonderful. So much so that if this were a movie and the actors playing Curran and Jim etc. had these voices I wouldn't think twice. She's the best I've heard and I couldn't be happier she's doing one of my favorite series.

Another great book by a fantastic author

I absolutely loved this book and this series. This author is my absolute favorite and the reader has been one of the best I've listened to. All these books flow seamlessly into one great story that meld from book 1 to book 2 and onto the rest. This series is a must read for anyone who loves these types of books. I love how the author grows Kate and Curan's relationship. she's still badass even though she's in love. it's completely different than any other relationships in other books I've read. the women in those books turns sappy and stops being a badass or it doesn't feel real. It makes you want more. I hope this series never ends!!!
