"Love this series and the narrator is fine."

I am totally hooked on these books. They were a long shot for me at first, just looking for something in this genre not about sex and with magic involved as well. I found exactly what I was looking for. Kate is a great character and I want a Curran in my own life. Andrews provides characters that are believable and imaginable and the fantasy realm is lucky to have her! I read the third book because it is not available on audio yet because I couldn't wait. Each character introduced into the story has meaning and a place. Kate is no pushover but she is very in touch with her human side. The first book was a little frustrating trying to figure out exactly what she is but it comes out full swing in the third book so please keep reading. It is worth it! You can read these out of order but I highly discourage it, you will loose a lot of character tension.

I find nothing wrong with the narrator, either.

I highly recommed the series, Andrews, Kate and Curran will not let you down.

    "Wonderful to listen"

After trying the third book and finding it so enjoyable, I decided to buy the whole series in audiobooks. I think Renee Raudman adds great character to the voice and fuels my imagination.
I recommend this to anybody who loves urban fatasy and is looking for a new series to enjoy.

    "Good book, not awesome reader"

One of the previous reviewers mentioned that the narrator is just a bit too whiney for certain scenes for Kate. I agree.

Also, as a native Atlantan, I do wish they had found someone who could say kudzu correctly, or least caught when it was wrong.

The book itself is good and I am hoping more are done in audio, same narrator or not. Otherwise I'll have to spring for the paper copies for 3 and 4.

    "Series is getting better!"

There was enough potential in Magic Bites (Book 1) to get me to try this one. Glad I did! The narrator, characters, and story have grown on me, and about halfway through this book, there was a wild turn for the better in the series. Seems the authors have both gotten better in their writing and have gotten a better editor. The prose is more polished. All the technicalities aside, the characters are really starting to come alive. Toss in a dash of old Celtic mythology, and you've got a great story. If you like urban fantasy that's not ruined by the overwrought romance that plagues so many other novels in the genre, give the Kate Daniels series a try. Oh, sure, there's DEFINITELY something brewing between Kate and Curran... but what it is we just don't know quite yet, it's not overwrought, and it doesn't detract from the story. Enjoy!

"Enjoyable, but still a shame about the narrator"

I found myself increasingly engaged with the main character and the imaginary world in this series as I listened to this second installment. But the more I get to like Kate, the worse Renee Raudman sounds to me as her voice. At moments of intensity or suspense, her voice goes to a mix of weepy and cringy-helpless, which is pretty much the opposite of the character's actual temperament. She can't carry off Kate's toughness or bravado, so in a weird way the narration cause the character to seem less consistent and plausible than she actually is. I think for the third book, I'll read the print version, lazy though I am, in order to give poor Kate more of a chance to shine through.

I just really dig it. I liked Dresden, LOVE October Daye and Kate Daniels is hovering between them. It's just really top notch stuff both in the writing and in the performance.

    "Better than Book 1"

Now that you have been introduced to the main characters this book has more story line and magic. There's more action, more wisecracks and interesting to watch the developing relationship between Kate and Curran, the leader of all the shapeshifters.

    "Magic Burns"

I'm not sure if it isn't partly the tone of the narrator, but there is a definte sadness in this series. I don't normally go for books that make me feel bad, but I did enjoy these. I like the characters, there's a little humor and the possibility of romance, plenty of action. And it would be weird if Kate was all happy-go-lucky in her situation, so it works. That said, I still might have only given this one four stars, except for the ending. The coffee thing saved it.

"Kate is back and is kicking ass again!"

I have read this series before and listened to the first book in audio. This series is really developing into something addictive. I love the world, the plot, the charachters, in fact I find it hard to dislike this series. Ilona has created an interesting collection of charachters, ones that you bond with and can get frustrated with. If you are into Urban Fantasy and kick ass chicks, then you should love this series.

    "Kate Kicks Ass again!"
Would you listen to Magic Burns again? Why?

Yes, and I have, many times. The same way I re-read my favourite books, for nostalgia. I also re-read/listen to refresh me before the latest release.

In fact these audiobooks are a relief, with two under three's keeping me busy, I have less time for reading, or even refresh-me reading, so audiobooks are brill.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kate is the lead and it's obvious to pick her as a favourite, but I quite like Jim and the relationship he has with Kate and Curran and how different they are.

What does Renée Raudman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

When I first started listening to audiobooks I used to find that some narrators would put me off listening. The great feature of Audible is being able to hear the tone of a narrator in a snippet before you buy. Renee narrates a number of series I follow, I now have no hesitation choosing any series she has narrated. To me, she is the voice of Kate, when I read, it is her that I hear.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    ... I hate this question...

    Any additional comments?

So, I first read this book back in July 2009 when I was Ill with the flu and read books 1 & 2 over a few days and my review from then is enthusiastic. My enthusiasm has not waned. This series has swept me into a world that is easy to imagine and characters that are complex but relatable.

Magic Rises comes out in a few days and I have been listening to these again to bring me up to date.

I bought these audiobooks, originally to keep me company during night feeds and it worked a treat. I wish Audible would stock more of these fabulous audiobooks.

    "Excellent Fast Paced Read"

I am loving this series of AudioBooks, all have been fast paced, gritty with a lot of humour thrown in. The Characters are easy to understand and warm to. The story lines are interesting and keep you on the edge of your seat. The Narrator is very good and has a warm even tone to her narrating, that gives the Audiobook an easy listening style.
