Publisher's summary

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: If there' s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it. As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate's connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe - especially those closest to Kate. As Roland' s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only 24 hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she' ll find herself embroiled in a war that could destroy everything she holds dea.

wonderful entertainment

The narration is great and helps the story come alive with all the voices. Also the story keeps you riveted.

a superb example of the brilliance that comprises

Any additional comments?

Andrews is pulling my heart in all different directions and taking us places I could never even have fathomed. Witches, predictions, Hugh and danger are at every corner. I feel like there should be tribal drums beating out, Daddy is coming. Scenes in the middle of the story reaffirmed my love of urban fantasy on audio. Raudman made me feel every emotion and taste Kate’s despair. I could barely breathe and lost myself completely in the story. I have never been more anxious in my life

Why does Ascanio have an accent?!

I love the story, but hate the narration. For instance, Ascanio was raised in a cult out west, so why does he speak like he is from Italy? His mother got the name from a book she was reading when she gave birth. The accents and constantly switching character voices got annoying. I don't think I will be buying anymore of the audiobooks.

Fantastic series

You can’t go wrong with an Illona Andrews book, but this one puts all the characters in a different light within the series. The books are never boring and they are always well written.

love this series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I love the story line and the writing style. I really like that over the past 7 books we really get to know the characters. I have listened to the books several times.

What other book might you compare Magic Breaks to and why?

I do not think they are real similar, but I like Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series. Both authors give enough detail with out being repetitive and keep the story line going while keeping your interest.

Which character – as performed by Renée Raudman – was your favorite?

All of them

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I always have extreme reactions in Ilona Andrews books

Excellent Series

Thank God for this ending, though it's not really the end, if this"chapter" didn't come to a head, so to speak, oh goodness, the puns, literally, anyway, simply, the series literally built up my own life's tension, unbearably but wonderfully so! ;) My husband gave me Audible credits for Valentine's Day, and this series isn't even in the full blown erotica section! Otherwise though I'm really a fan of contemporary fantasy, and fantasy in general and this series was amazing. This book manages to tie together loose ends to questions you forgot you had, punish enemies you forgot you thought the story forgot, tell the untold tales while ever remaining the cover to cover sarcastic blend of ego driven supernatural assassins spilling blood on every page just like we love.

Still keeps getting better!

I usually try to keep from spoiling books but this is the 7th in the series and I just want to talk about a few things. I won't spoil much, but if you don't want to know, then stop here and just know I loved this book despite a few things that could have gone a different way.

I understand now why there was a warning in the front of the book that this would feel like an ending but isn't. I COULD see her ending it here. I am very glad she didn't because I really want to see if everyone starts treating Kate differently now that everyone knows who she is.

There were a lot of good things in this books and I obviously loved it. There were also a few things I wish had happened, but didn't. If my guess is to what will happen with her father does happen, I think I will end up liking it better than what you are lead to believe...fingers crossed. Otherwise, why mention so many times that Kate is just not powerful enough to take Roland on? I do feel like the authors could have fixed that when she met her grandmother. For a minute there I really thought she was being filled up with her grandmother's power and that would have explained everything. Maybe things change in later books.

I'm also at the point of not understanding the mentions of her hiding her power at this point. To me, this speaks to her having much more power than what everyone thinks she has. If that is the case, why can't she control all the vampires at once? Or why is Hugh so hard to fight? Why does she get into some situations that she really should have an easy time getting out of? Maybe this will get answered later as well.

Ido hope Kate is hiding more power and we will see it happen. That's because I love to see female heroines be the most powerful. I'm a girl, what can I say. I have more questions but let's see if they all get answered in the next book.

I LOVED IT!!!

This is a great addition to the collection. I was scared for a moment about half way through the book because I thought that this was the end. But take a deep breath, stay calm, hope is alive! lol We have more additions coming up :). Or at least it’s not the end. There is no need to go into details (mainly because everyone else has already done that) this is just a wonderful story and I look forward to each and every addition. I love Kate and I love Curran. I spend all year wishing for the months to past, waiting for the new book to come out, listen to it in one to two settings and then (sigh!) starting the wait back over again. It is a fantastic world that I love visiting.

Thank you llona Andrews for sharing your world with us.
Renee Raudman thank you for making that world come alive.
The combination of IA's writing and RR's narrating is a magical experience!
