Publisher's summary

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: If there' s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it. As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate's connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe - especially those closest to Kate. As Roland' s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only 24 hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she' ll find herself embroiled in a war that could destroy everything she holds dea.

First Rated "R" Kate Daniels....

This is more of a warning than a review.

All the previous reviews have just-fully told you how really great this series is. It's up there with the Dresden Files books as far as staying fresh, humorous, inventive, and adventurous goes.
But there should be a friendly warning attached, especially for listeners, so your not caught off guard. No biggie. It's like when you're channel surfing and someone walks into the room to ask you a question. You turn to them but they are looking at the TV thinking that where you intermittently stopped was what you were watching all along. So you look back to see that you must have stopped on Showtime or Cinemax because there's a couple going at it, getting hot and heavy. And now you have some explaining to do because that person asking the question is your preteen daughter. I'm talking That kind of warning.
So if your listening to this book without headphones be aware that the book touches on the subject of beastiallity. There is also an extremely detailed graphic sex scene (not a part of the beastiallity subject material) that reads more like a Penthouse forum than any of the other books of this series. I listened with headphones on and after the scene was over I felt like I should be smoking a cigarette with Renee Raudman.

Anyway, there it is. Great story to a great series with one miniscule warning.

Excellent

I am not close to being tired of Kate and her life. She is a good heroin with fresh adventures. The characters continue to develop, and I really enjoy the turn this book takes. Ready for more please.

I love this series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if that friend likes a good well written action packed story that keeps you entertained from start to finish, with a love interest but not a bunch of cheap cheesy sex.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Magic Breaks?

The ending that sounds a lot like an ending but I really don't think it is.

What about Renée Raudman’s performance did you like?

Um, everything.

Any additional comments?

I binge listened to this series and now that I'm at the end (for now) I find myself missing the characters. I love the world Ilona Andrews created in this series and I hope that there is much more to come. If not from Kate and Curran then I hope for off shoots of other characters. The short stories that go with this series are nice but I much prefer full length books.

Any additional comments?

Stayed entirely true to the characters as I see them while allowing them growth and change.

Julie!!!

This book was everything I wanted it to be! Ilona Andrews always delivers!
It was hilarious, sweet, exciting, intelligent and so much fun!

I love Julie so much and somehow the short story at the end was better for me than any of Kate’s stories. Here’s hoping we get more Julie centered stories in the future!!!

Just loved it!!

I felt this was a great ending even though it wasn’t but many things did come to an end. I love this series, I feel that the author just brings out all the characters and gives life to this world in an amazing way but the narrator oh my god she is just perfect for this series. She is one of my favorite in Audibles. ❤️

This is another book filled with drama, action and love, what else can you ask for?! ☺️

Oh, so good!

I was so happy to see the latest edition to the Kate Daniels world has arrived! This is my all-time favorite series! If you've been following Kate and the pack, you will have to get this book, you know you will - and you will not be disappointed! If you're stumbling upon this book looking for a great series, you've found it.. just go back to book one and set aside a week of straight listening! I usually listen to each new book twice, once to eagerly hear whats happening next and the second time around to absorb all the details and put the pieces together. And the narrator? Oh, she is sooo good! LOVE LOVE LOVE this book - it stacks up with the rest!

Great addition to the series! <3 Kate & Curran! :D

4.5-5 stars

This was a great addition to the series. I love Kate and Curran and I was really happy to see how things turned out at the end of the story. There is a certain amount of conclusion in some parts of the series storyline but the way it happened opened doors for further Kate and Curran adventures in the future and I can't wait to see what comes next.

I don't want to get too detailed but you know the first part of the story from the book description, a master of the dead is killed and Kate and the shifters have to find the killer (who was a shifter) before noon the next day or risk war between "the People" and the Pack. There are a few more difficulties tied in to this, one of which is Hugh (Roland's warlord) showing up in Atlanta and is the instigator of Kate's issues. Another difficulties is that Curran is out of town when Hugh shows up and the deadline is given so Kate and her allies have to find the truth (and prepare for a war) on their own. They manage to find the killer but there's still some strategic thinking needed to avert the war. Kate and company mange to pull things out just as Curran and more backup show. Unfortunately, Hugh doesn't like being thwarted and kidnaps Kate (and Ghastech by accident), teleporting her to a magical prison she can't escape and trying to tempt her to his side. Kate wont accept of course and so things get a bit sketchy for a while. Curran and company come to the rescue but they get propelled in to a series of events that ends up bringing Kate to a meeting she's both dreaded and looked forward to most of her life. Kate, Curran and their crew end up going through the wringer but they do come out on the other side. Things are left with Kate and Curran (and their crew) ending the story safe and in a good place. As I noted above, the way the story ended left plenty of places for the series to go and there seem to be some interesting times in store for Kate and Curran.

I totally enjoyed this story. I guess if I had one complaint it would be that Curran wasn't in it for most of the first half of the story but the story was pretty long so there was still a decent amount of Curran time. The story was fast paced and interesting until the end...I only stopped reading to sleep and even then I dreamed about the story. I'd recommend this story for fans of the series. If you haven't read the series yet, I'd highly recommend it but suggest starting with book #1 Magic Bites. 2 thumbs up. :D

Must, Must Read!

Wow, this series is definitely my favorite Urban Fantasy series. Well developed characters, a rich world of fantasy that has been cultivated over the series, and a strong female lead. This installment did not have as much interaction between the characters as in previous books which gave it a different feel than the other books, less of a warm, homey-environment feel, but the direction the story went, makes it all worth while.

If you are new to the series, to really appreciate the storyline, you should probably go back to the beginning and enjoy the books leading up to this one. The narrator, Renee Raudman, is one of the BEST!
