Publisher's summary

The beautiful woman called The Rowan was the most powerful telepath on all the planets of the Alliance - until the birth of her daughter, Damia. Damia and her husband, Afra Lyon, were the most extraordinary team of telepaths the Alliance had ever seen - until the powers of their children began to emerge.

Now the combined power of all these generations, especially the unique abilities of the younger Lyon clan, is needed to face once and for all the threat of the alien Hivers. The human worlds see themselves as peaceful, and traditionally they have used deadly force only in self-defense, but now the time has come to take the battle with the Hivers out into space. A fleet of starships, with the powerful Lyon clan as its leaders, is sent into Hiver territory. Their mission: seek and destroy the Hiver threat that is lurking at the edges of known space.

A Great End to a Story

I first discovered Anne McCaffrey in the early 70's. If you like Sci-Fi and you haven't discovered Anne McCaffrey, then you have to give her a try. I was given the begining of her "Dragonriders of Pern" series and have been hooked on her since. From what I understand, that was the second time around for new readers to Anne McCaffrey. Now with audible books, I think it is time for the third round to discover her. She creates wonderful planets, people, and storylines.

With this book, "The Rowan" series comes to an end and it is a series your really need to listen to in order to be able to follow the entire storyline and watch as her characters develope and grow. Lyon's Pride is about the third generation of talented people who help to save the entire galaxy. But it's the story of how each gets to that point that makes this well worth listening to. The only down side to this series is the narrator. I could have wished for some one else to have narrated this series, but if you can get past that and just listen to the storyline, then I think you will like this series as much as I have.

Modeling happy diaspora family life

If you reached this far you will obviously have come to terms with slow paced world building and relationship building. This diasporatic family has its own built-in Skype, and everyone calls Momma. The world building, of course, just waves a wand at physics, to reduce the wait time in travel and communication. The story line is reminiscent of "Battlestar Galactica meets the Borg" but without the frenzy that would later (after this book was published) develop in those two franchises. It is more like "The Waltons taking on Poachers." This is a fine example of middle book syndrome; light on tension/conflict but you know something is coming. Maybe book 5; or 25. With a nod to weekly planetoid encounters on their 5 year mission, the door is open for some kind of weekly serialized TV show, but never really developed.

Continuing....

Expanding further out into space. A light continuation of the story. Everything gets solved a bit too easy, but still entertaining and well paced.

A whole lot of fun

Loved it as I have all of the late great Anne McAffrey works. Even her worst are better than some authors best.

Fantastic series !

I read this when I was a young man and enjoyed it so very much I A few years later it came out on cassette and I purchased it and listened while I did Yardwork . My cassettes where lent out to friends on long trips across this great land until they got eaten by the players at the time . I’ve purchased it yet again through audible in my retirement to cheer me up in my old age . I have all of Anne MCcaffrey’s books that are on audible and a couple cassette’s that still work that have not shown up in audible yet , plus my books . She gave soo very much to sci-fi ! I have been hoping that one of the very best movie or television production units would give the none reading or listening people of this world her gift to us .
