Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author J. R. Ward has blown away fans with her layered, tantalizing tales of sexy vampires and supernatural intrigue. In Lover Unbound, an immortal killer falls into the care - and possibly the arms - of a mortal surgeon. Suffering a horrific childhood as the son of a Bloodletter in his father's war camp, Vishous pledges death to members of the vampire-hunting Lessening Society. Vishous knows no love. He feels no emotion. He lives only to oppose the slayers. But after suffering a mortal wound, a human surgeon named Dr. Jane Whitcomb tends to him. Her ministrations, however, extend beyond his physical injury - and before long her tender hand has awakened feelings of pleasure that Vishous never dreamed existed.

    "Brutality, Abuse, and Dark Fantasy."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you can't handle brutality, male rape, forced bondage and discipline, as part of the story line than don't read J.R. Ward. If you enjoy intense urban fantasy then I recommended starting with the first book in the series and read in order.

What did you like best about this story?

When Vishous tells his story, and finds out some truths about who he really is. That some one can open his heart to feeling he never thought he could have.

What does Jim Frangione bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think Jim Frangione does a great job with narration of this series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    *SPOILER ALERT* When Jane dies.

    Any additional comments?

I've read every book in this series more than once and have always enjoyed each one. If you enjoy enjoy intense, dark urban fantasy then you will enjoy this series.

    "Lover Unbound"

Vishous is the most human brother. I only have 3 more books to go and am anxious to "read", but I want to savor these delicious stories. I can I do both? J R Ward - you'll have to write more!

"Great book in an awesome series!!"
What made the experience of listening to Lover Unbound, The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 5 the most enjoyable?

The way the layers of story just keeps unraveling. J.R, is an awesome writer she keeps the story moving and you never lose interest.

What other book might you compare Lover Unbound, The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 5 to and why?

I can't compare it even though it is in a series each book is different.

Have you listened to any of Jim Frangione’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think is perfect for the series. I would love to have a female narrator do the female parts and Jim continue with the men.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Unbound Lover

    Story
"One of my favorites in this series"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this book--this entire series--to several people. Lover Unbound marks a noticeable shift in the Black Dagger books--we start to see a diversification of plot-lines and focus in on more characters within each novel. I think this contributes to the depth of the storytelling, although it is true that this broader perspective does take some of the focus of the book away from V and Jane. There's is a complex relationship, since V has a lot of baggage and Jane is so locked into her own head that she's difficult to relate to. But one of the things that I love about J.R. Ward is that the story doesn't end when the novel does. She returns to this relationship in Lover Unleashed, and while I feel that Lover Unbound has a satisfactory ending, the fact that Ward revisits these characters and further develops them in a later book makes the close of this one seem more like a "to be continued" than a happy ending.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lover Unbound, The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 5?

V's penthouse. If you're very vanilla you might not enjoy this book, but then again, if you're very vanilla you're probably not reading this series in the first place. Also, loved the scene with the demural--the interplay between V and Jane was very sweet. Then there's the end scene with the Scribe Virgin and the birds...

What does Jim Frangione bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His pacing is excellent. He doesn't really differentiate voices in an obvious way, but somehow I never seem to have trouble knowing who's speaking--maybe it's just that Ward has given each character such a distinctive style. My one complaint about the narrator is that he sometimes really has trouble getting his tongue around some of Ward's heavy use of slang. Most of the time he's fine, but every once in a while he'll read something really awkwardly. But his voice is really deep and rich, which is exactly what I want in the narrator of a vampire novel.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It's a Black Dagger book! Each book in this series leaves you laughing, wiping away tears and counting down the days until the next one comes out!

    "There Are No Words......"

If you are a J R Ward fan this is another excellent installment in the Brotherhood Series (Book 5). Ward's storyline is unique and fresh as always. Interesting plot developments that leave you wanting more, more, more!!! If you have not experienced J R Ward's vampire world I highly recommend each and every installment of this series. I really like the narrator even though there is not much difference between female and male voices...I hope he continues with the series...have purchased each and every title in series, all are amazing, well worth the credit.

"In the minority, not a fan of narrator. "

I adore the series. I am listening to it again in its entirety. He does a great job at just reading the books. But it is not at all exciting. Sometimes, i don't know which character is speaking. It could be so much better with someone who could actually perform different voices. Just my opinion.
