But fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, he's found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him.

Even though I get a bit impatient with the heroine for this tale, I just love the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And I'm so glad they have stayed with the same narrator. I think he is excellent. I certainly don't want to give anything away, but I'm so glad Ward came up with this conversion for Butch so he could be a real brother. Another hit story for Ward!
This is the 4th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and was great. If you are new to this series I would highly suggest you start at the beginning. This book follows Butch, the human and Marissa. This installment really surprised me and made some interesting twists and turns in the war between the lessers and the brothers. Butch plays a very important role now in the brotherhood which also surprised me. I had kind of mentally written him off as a minor character until this book came along. I love how each book is about a different brother that furthers the story line not only individually but adds perspective and history to the ongoing plot. As I read each book I love the series that much more. I also like the background stories that go on in each book. J.R. Ward introduced the next books character in the current book as a sub-plot. They all intertwine together, its a nice touch.
I've read all seven books and am now listening to them. Hightly readable and entertaining. I think this is my favorite of the seven books in the series. I highly recommend this series to readers who like vampires, especially those that are somewhat different than your average vamp.
Finally all the books in the series! This is one of my favorites in this series. Jim Frangione makes this audiobook enjoyable to listen to. This is the turning point in the series taking the Brotherhoods battle to a new level.
I love this series. My only disappointment has been that they were not all available on audio. They finally are. This is not my favorite book in the series, but it is still great.
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
The secondary stories are better than butch and Marisa's story.. I have to admit I did love wrath and Beth during the transgression scene..
