But fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, he's found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him.
Keep chilled: listen to more titles in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Jr Ward just makes you keep coming back and wanting more of his books. I have listened to this series several times so far.
As I listen more to audio books I realize how important the narrator is. Jim Frangione is amazing. He has made the Black Dagger Brotherhood books come alive. The books are great, but it is his narrating that brings them to such a high level. Please - make sure Jim continues narrating these!
This book is about character growth. Marissa becomes a woman of substance and the men ........ we should all be so lucky to find someone who loves us enough to want what is best for us. Amazing!
Having once read the whole series I have gone back and purchased the audio's after Lover Avenged and this was the last book I had to complete my audio list of the series.. it's so disappointing after having finished the series thus far... Love the series but when you go back and catch things the author somehow changed or mistakenly messed up something of these great characters it's just frustrating. It was a good read, not my favorite in the series, but a waste if you've read the later books.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a great series. If you enjoy paranormal fiction, this is your series.
Even though I get a bit impatient with the heroine for this tale, I just love the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And I'm so glad they have stayed with the same narrator. I think he is excellent. I certainly don't want to give anything away, but I'm so glad Ward came up with this conversion for Butch so he could be a real brother. Another hit story for Ward!
This is the 4th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and was great. If you are new to this series I would highly suggest you start at the beginning. This book follows Butch, the human and Marissa. This installment really surprised me and made some interesting twists and turns in the war between the lessers and the brothers. Butch plays a very important role now in the brotherhood which also surprised me. I had kind of mentally written him off as a minor character until this book came along. I love how each book is about a different brother that furthers the story line not only individually but adds perspective and history to the ongoing plot. As I read each book I love the series that much more. I also like the background stories that go on in each book. J.R. Ward introduced the next books character in the current book as a sub-plot. They all intertwine together, its a nice touch.
