Publisher's summary

Orson Scott Card, best-selling author of Ender’s Game, teams up with Kathryn H. Kidd to launch an epic science fiction saga of space exploration - and a dramatic conflict between human and nonhuman intelligence.

On the Ark, a colonyship bound outward across the stars, not everyone is a volunteer - or even human. Lovelock is a capuchin monkey engineered from conception to be the perfect servant: intelligent, agile, and devoted to his owner. He is a "witness", privileged to spend his days and nights recording the life of one of Earth’s most brilliant scientists via digital devices implanted behind his eyes.

But Lovelock is something special among witnesses. He’s a little smarter than most humans: smart enough to break through some of his conditioning, smart enough to feel the bonds of slavery - and want freedom.

Set against the awesome scope of interstellar space, and like Speaker for the Dead and Xenocidebefore it, Lovelock probes the provocative interface between humanity and another sentient species.

An enjoyable read

My only complaint is that this is considered the first book in a planned trilogy that will likely never be completed. That said, the story does conclude at a satisfying enough point.

Pretty good

This book is pretty good but gets really hard to listen to sometimes, it's actually very sad in a lot of ways.
It annoyed me that the narrator pronounced Penelope as "Penny lope".

a wonderful touching story

this wonderful story is not what I thought it would be, but much more.
it conveys complex philosophical ideas in a very understandable way as just a part of the story. sad, funny and smart. the only downside for this book is that the original trilogy that was planned never came to light. the book stands on its own, but I do want to keep be in this world.

Lovelock

Was really hard to get through, though the story was interesting the reader wasn't.

What?

While still a fan of OSC the last couple of books have been really disappointing not sure what this hot garbage was supposed to be other than a weird string of odd stories with some underlying metaphors about life. just weird

not a happy story, but a story indeed

wow, it starts off disney fairytale, twists and grows up to pg-13, then in the last few hours takes a turn for R. I lauged, I almost cried, and I most certainly understood.

I don't know that I liked this story, but, I think the authors accomplished exactly what they set out to do.

Love. Lovelock?

Very different but good. Not an action adventure by any stretch of the imagination but if you want an entertaining and thought provoking read, this is a good one
