Publisher's summary

Knight of Shadows is the ninth book of The Chronicles of Amber; an epic fantasy series written by six-time Hugo Award winning and three-time Nebula Award winning author, Roger Zelazny.

The ten books that make up the series are told in two story arcs: The Corwin Cycle and the Merlin Cycle.

Narrator Wil Wheaton, who won the 2012 Audie Award for his engaging performance of Fuzzy Nation, brings this classic series to a stunning close by giving voice to Merlin, Corwin’s son, in the final five books of the series.

Melvin Corey must choose between an alliance with the Pattern of Amber or the Pattern of Chaos, in a tale of a sometimes murderous family of wizards and their alternate worlds.

just as good as any of the others in this series

only one more to go, soooooo sad to leave these characters behind. really hoping book 10 ends well. all fantasy lovers should give these books a go, would be surprised if some didn't enjoy them. I am so in awe of Roger Zelazny's imagination and He could not have chosen two better narrators

A few chapters, not a full book.

I dislike that the Merlin part of the chronicles is broken into such small bites that don’t feel at all like complete books. It feels like the publisher took one book and published it in pieces so they could charge 5 times what they should have charged. I feel scammed and will not be paying again to get the end of the story. At this point, I don’t care how it ends.

Great story, terrible narrator

Wheaton had me flat out laughing out loud this time around, this was a terrible rendition. You are better off just reading the books and skipping his narration. I hope they re-record this one day.

Lazy storytelling

This story is confusing and told lazily. I couldn't concentrate on the boring and discombobulating story. Not recommended.

It's slowly coming together

Roger Zelazny’s Knight of Shadows is the ninth installment in the Chronicles of Amber series and the fourth in the Merlin (son of Corwin) tale. While someone is still trying to kill him, he is now focused on Julia after recognizing that she wasn’t killed back in volume six and appears to be his enemy. Merlin comes to understand that he is involved in a superpower struggle between the Pattern of Amber and the Logrus of Chaos. Hel also meets several ghosts including the voice of his father who attempts to reconciles generational inconsistencies from the Corwin cycle.

Zelazny is really stretching things out (although its volume is on the shorter side). With a family that regularly seems to practice double dealing and backstabbing, it’s a wonder why Merlin wants to have anything to do with Amber at all. Hopefully Merlin will receive some satisfaction, answers, and closure in the last volume.

The narration is acceptable, although the Friday night barroom banter is getting annoying. The short nature along with brisk pacing makes for a quick listen.

Bad reader, worse voices

The voices for the Pattern and Logrus are horrible. Please rerecord the Merlin Cycle with someone who has actual talent.

great series

The only down side is the way its narrated. Too many simular voices for different characters. It is confusing at times to know who is speaking. Aswell as young voices for old characters and tiny elegant voices for big strong characters like Benedict.

brilliant writing.

Zelazney captures the imagination with larger then life characters in impossible situations....and yet they are so relatable in so many ways.

I love Will Wheaten narrating. they changed narrators halfway through the series but Wheaten was the perfect choice for Merlin
