Publisher's summary

Kitty's radio show is as popular as ever, and she has a boyfriend who actually seems to understand her. Can she finally settle down to a normal life? Not if this is just the calm before the storm.

When her mother falls ill, Kitty rushes back to Denver - and right back to the abusive pack of werewolves she escaped a year ago. To make matters worse, a war is brewing between the city's two oldest vampires, threatening the whole supernatural community.

Though she wants to stay neutral, Kitty is again drawn into a world of politics and violence. To protect her family, her lover, and herself, she'll have to choose sides. And maybe become what she hates - a killer.

Brought me to tears

I don't cry easily, but Carrie Vaughn's writing, and Margarite Gavin's reading, brought me to sobs during the very touching talk between Kitty and her mother regarding both of their health problems. It was so realistic, as I have been a third person in almost the same situation, and it was so very moving. I, too, have been bitten by Kitty (excuse the pun), and I look forward to every one of her books. As for Margarite Gavin, she reads for several of the series that I am currently hooked on, and she is a primary reason for my addictions! I will listen to her read the phone book. She has a wide range of voices, and knows when to deliver the intonations in her reading. All round- this series is a delight to listen to, as well as a pretty good who-done-it.

Loved it!!!!!!

If you could sum up Kitty and the Silver Bullet in three words, what would they be?

Touching, Exciting, Reveling!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kitty and the Silver Bullet?

Near the end when she finally tells Ben she loves him! I was so happy for her!

What about Marguerite Gavin’s performance did you like?

She is awesome....loved her in the Rachel books, and just as much as Kitty!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Denver will never be the same!

Any additional comments?

This book was the best one yet...starting #5 now! Highly recommend this series....give it a chance...you will love it too!

There’s no place like home

“You can never have too much family.”
Kitty’s chickens come home to roost as she heads back to Colorado. On the one hand, it gives a better ending than in book 1, where Kitty essentially tucked tail and ran. There’s a slightly larger group of returning characters and we get to see Kitty surrounded by family instead of being a solo operator.

On the other hand, this plot line was the weakest of the books so far, with the power players and Kitty repeatedly making stupid decisions. For example, given her former pack’s sense of smell, how could Kitty believe she could just hang out in town and stay under the clan radar? Of the detective who keeps charging in without factoring in vampire mesmerism? And, now that the world, and the legal system, are aware of vampires and weres, wouldn’t many conflicts be easily diffused by cameras and recordings? (For this last, the author attempts to give vampires the selective ability to fry technology, however, it didn’t ring true).

“I thought you’d be taller.”
I was also disappointed in the ways that the various bad guys were so easily defeated after so much buildup. Finally, it was really aggravating to have all the power players talking about Them, while explaining absolutely nothing. I found it unrealistic to think that the vampire King of Colorado wouldn’t explain the importance of control, how worldwide supernatural politics worked, or what the mysterious external threat was. It seemed needlessly cryptic and for the sole purpose of making money by spreading the reveal over more books.

Good plot but not feeling the romance

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd certainly recommend this series to those who enjoy UF.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I liked that Kitty finally returned to Denver. It was great to see her interations with her family, especially her mother and sister. I was also really glad to get to know Rick better and enjoyed all the scenes with him.

My biggest problem with this book and the last one is Kitty's relationship with Ben. She never showed any romantic interest in him until his first full moon as a werewolf. After that their sexual relationship just felt forced. Over and over in this book you can see the doubt they have about their feelings for each other. Toward the end it was like the author just swept it all under the rug. Suddenly, it's settled that they really do care about each other. I don't feel the passion between them and I'm not buying it. The series was set up so we'd think Kitty would eventually hook up with Cormac. I really don't like how the author has shoved him out of the way in favor of a false relationship. Ben's a good guy and was great as a human lawyer. I'm not feeling him as a werewolf at all.

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, she's great. She really enhances the experience of listening to the book. I'd have to agree with others that she's one of the best narrators out there.

Any additional comments?

I wish the author would stop repeating the same details over and over. She's bad about putting them in suspensful moments where it unnecessarily slows the story down. If I was reading the book, I'd skim past them but with audio that's harder to do.

Nice addition to the series, added a deeper plot

Ok, something about the name "Kitty" turned me off this book for about a year, finally I gave into to all the recommendations. I am glad I did. She is funny and so unlucky, it reminds me of Stephanie Plum in Janet Evanovich series, but much much more unlucky. I got hooked quickly and I only have one book left in the series. Each book builds on the last, and average about 7 hours a piece just enough time for Kitty to get herself in trouble and right back out of it again. This is not a deep book but enjoyable just the same. It's light at times, funny, and then serious but not so overwhelming that you can't set it down and come back to it. Its a good light read and the narrator was just perfect for the book, she tells the story in a light enjoyable way, and she has become the voice of Kitty in my mind.

Best Book Yet!!

Kitty books are so well done, they are on my auto-buy list. Love the writing, the characters, AND the narration. As a fan of the series, I must point out--these books definitely have a story arc going, so read them in order. In this book, there were hard decisions made, and some very emotional scenes. Lots of action, Kitty humor, and a satisfying resolution made a nice balance. This may be the best Kitty book yet!

I normally don't write reviews but...

This series has pulled me. Hook, line, and sinker. The varied plots gives you enough seperation between character styles and issues, while still pulling together the over all story. And there is a story. The development of the series thus far has been great and I look forward to the next release in audio format.
Marguerite is a FANTASTIC reader and I love her voice in this series.
