Publisher's summary

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, except when it doesn't. Kitty and Ben return to their werewolf pack in Denver only to discover an invisible evil that smells of brimstone and plays with fire has followed them home. Stalking the whole pack, it leaves a charred trail of ashes and death across the city. Kitty seeks help from Rick, the master vampire of Denver, as well as from the paranormal investigators on a popular reality television show.

But when a mysterious vampire who claims to be a demon hunter - and the only one who can help them - suddenly arrives, Kitty and her allies won't be able to predict what he really wants...or what they must do to extinguish the terror that can torch them all.

My favorite so far :-)

Any additional comments?

I typically do not write book reviews, but I couldn't pass the opportunity this time. After all the adventures that Kitty has gone through, I was curious to see what could happen now. Yes, it does involve some backlash from some of her enemies from a previous book. It was with great joy that the story felt fresh. It has lots of excitment with old friends, and new ones. It is book not miss. Get it, you won't be disappointed.

Really a great story!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yep....I would recommend the whole series....Kitty is a great MC and I know I am going to love all her books...I am starting #7 now!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well Kitty of course....she did get a little hysterical in this one though...but it was good to see her in a different light...

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yep...The Hollows...she is a great narrator!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes....I laughed, I cried, my heart went out to Kitty and Ben....this was a rough one for them...but it turned out ok...and ended on a good note....

Any additional comments?

Kitty is a very relatable character...she is down to earth and brave....I love that she and Ben are married and I love that she is the Alpha of her pack....she is really cool...I highly recommend this series...and I really liked this installment to the series!

Ear wigs and ghost chasers

“How do I arrest it?”
I had great fun with the mini-arc of Kitty and Co trying to figure out who (or what) is after them.
The paranormal hunters were quite the hoot and the T J. tie-in was a heartfelt angle.
I also got a kick out of the TV soundtrack callbacks.

“Ah, the great vampire conspiracy.”
The bigger arc with vampire politics and threats to the Colorado scene was less entertaining.
This series misses a step when it comes to creating villains who can chew the scenery.
Villains have only brief appearances, seem all powerful, and then end up as much ado about nothing,
Whether some of the Big Bads introduced here bring more to the table will have to await future books. This series is best heard in order as characters/plots from previous books are important here and
there’s not a lot of recapping for the uninitiated.

A Hell of a Good Story

Well done plot, consistent within the supernatural realm she has created. (My biggest beef with fantasy writers is keeping track of each one's variations. Some vampires can't be seen in mirrors; some can, depending on the author. Some werewolves shift easily; some suffer agonies, etc.) The narrator is fantastic. Kept my interest throughout.

Kitty is working with different factions who become her allies.

I like everything about this story. There are many things in this world that we know so little about.

Performer Narrator MG

Marguerite Gavin is amazing! Like Houdini...
Carrie Vaughn is developing this series wonderfully too. Her writing is very much like Kim Harrison’s, which is extremely entertaining as well. Hmmmm

The narrator is awesome and captures the essence of the story. Easy to listen to like a great DJ.

Kitty vs. Demons

Fire, brimstone, and bad mojo anywhere she turns. Kitty's in for a wild ride as she faces an enemy that strikes from the shadows and hunts both her and her pack.

There are some fun bits in this book. I like Gary, Jules and particularly Tina of the Paradox P.I. crew. I like the contrast between Jules's science and Tina's powers. I really like that T.J.s brother, Peter, comes looking for him, and Kitty has to face her grief. I love the letter Tina get from Eric Wiesz, better known as Harry Houdini. And, of course, here is where we first start to hear about Cormac's personal adventure.

Aside from those awesome moments, this story seems like a vehicle to introduce Roman, the supposed "big bad" for the rest of the series. One of the reasons I am happy for this read-along is that the Roman story-line never really clicked with me. However, I have not yet read the last two books and the few previous to that were read in isolation, not in-a-row with the rest of the series. find that sometimes makes a big difference in how much I catch on to and enjoy the story. So I'm looking forward to a more cohesive experience of the rest of the series.

Much like the last book, while I like this story, it's not as near and dear to me as the first four books. But, House of Horrors is coming up next, and that IS one of my favorites. :)

Really good addition to the series :D

4-4.5 stars

This was a really good story and addition to the series. Kitty is back to her old self in this book and I have to admit that I'm liking the relationship between her and Ben more and more. Unfortunately, some of the issues Kitty ran into while she and Ben were in Vegas have followed them home. The band of shifters that threatened Kitty in Vegas seems rather put out that she didn't just allow them to sacrifice her and it becomes apparent that their vampire priestess master has cast a curse on Kitty and her pack.

Around the same time they figure out something is out to get them, Kitty finds out that the cast of a paranormal investigation TV show is in town to film at a local haunted house. She goes out to talk with them and is able to interest them in a crossover show where she'll broadcast on the radio what they're taping for one of their shows and then she'll be on their show when it airs. As luck would have it, when Kitty is staking out the haunted house with the group, the thing that's after Kitty and her pack causes some trouble. This actually ends up being a good thing though because it gets Kitty more help figuring out what the thing is and how to stop it. Unfortunately, there's also some vampire scheming going on and a new vampire named Roman comes on the scene. He offers to get rid of her problem for her...if she'll turn her loyalty to him. There's some definite drama and danger to deal with from the unknown threat as well as some pack dynamics that cause unsure footing as they work their way through the quagmire of problems. Thankfully, Kitty and friends come through things safely and with everything resolved for now.

This was a really enjoyable story. I thought Kitty might have been slipping a bit in the previous book but Kitty is back to her old self in this book. I'm happy with her and Ben's relationship...they seem to make a really good balance for each other and work together well. Overall, the story was very good and I liked how things played out. I'd recommend this story (and series). :)
