Publisher's Summary

The Road to Hell is Paved with Bad Intentions. Get ready for Keys to the Coven, a witty, tightly plotted, (adult) urban-fantasy/romance set in an original universe where karma is power, sex is karma, and it's not who you know but whose soul you own that matters.*

To become a demon, you must die in complete and utter despair. Three hundred years ago, Max passed that test with flying colors and joined the afterlife resolving never again to have innocent blood on his hands. Now Max has been given the job of breaking a young witch's family curse. But what she doesn't know, what Max can't bring himself to tell her, is that completing his mission almost certainly means her death.

When Felicity Woodsen inherits her mother's coven, she learns each firstborn Woodsen daughter must become the consort of an evil-arch demon. Felicity's only hope is to ally with the mysteriously charming Max. But is saving her body from one demon worth risking her soul with another?

Roxashael became a demon when his Roman captors sent his family, one by one to be devoured by lions. The lesson was clear: power is good; lots of power is better. Two-thousand years later, Rocky has power. He's purchased hundreds of souls, and he's created the Minsk Homunculus, a magic artifact that, by binding a human witch as his consort, turns him into an arch-demon and places him above the goody-two-shoes laws of karma.

Unfortunately, Rocky made a mistake. He fell in love with Felicity's mother and in a moment of weakness promised to give up his demon-consort charm. Now Felicity's mother is dead, the Minsk Homunculus is slated for destruction, and Rocky's power as an arch-demon is about to end.

No demon can break a promise. If Rocky refuses to give up the Minsk Homunculus, he'll become the lowest, most abject slave in Hell. But then, why break promises when they're so easy to corrupt?

**Caution: This book contains violence, strong sexual themes, moderately explicit sex between consenting adults, (unfulfilled) threats against children, and one completely gratuitous reference to unicorns.

"Stick the Iron in the Fire and Brand Me a Fan"

What a great start. I really look forward to listening to more writing by Vicky Loebel. "Keys to the Coven" bowls strike after strike on the way to a perfect game. The characters are flawed, interesting and engaging. They are solid, well-developed, and vibrantly described while maintaining their own personal areas of mystery and leaving plenty of room for future growth. The narration was great and I'm a real fan of using two (male and female) narrators. I don't want to reveal my favourite scenes because I would hate to spoil this book in any way for anyone.

I will mention two things. First, I hesitated purchasing this novel because of the strong over 18 warning but honestly I didn't think the story was that raw. There were some intimate scenes but I found them completely in keeping with the story line and never gratuitous. Second, the last hour, hour and a half, of the book are really action packed, so I would strongly recommend saving the end of the book for a quiet time because you don't want to be interrupted or distracted while listening to it.

Looking forward to the next one!

    "It's Got Karma!"

Keys to the Coven was quirky, entertaining, and fun to listen too!

Vickey did a great job of developing a different spin on demons, and angels, and how they gain and use "karma." It really was unlike any paranormal/fantasy I've listened to which was refreshing. I loved how each chapter started off by giving tips from the " Girls Guide to Demons."

Kudos to Emily Beresford and Nick Podehl! They did an awesome job narrating the story, and gave each character their own voice and projected the right amount of emotion. They really made this an entertaining story to listen to.

"SUPER GOOD BOOK!!! CANT WAIT FOR #2!!!"
Where does Keys to the Coven rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was really good, a demonic love story!!! lol

Who was your favorite character and why?

Felicity and Max...its a tie...both are equally fantastic!

Have you listened to any of Emily Beresford and Nick Podehl ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No, but I would!! :)

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh, and was mad a few times...thiss book deals with some sensitive subjects...

    Any additional comments?

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

I was hooked in the first hour and did not want to put this down! I like a good witch book, and this had witches and demons...so plus plus!! Felicity goes to settle her mothers estate after her passing, not knowing there was more then meets the eye going on there. Turns out her mother had deep dealings with the underworld and Felicity's soul has been sold to a demon names Max...now Max is not a bad guy, and as she gets to know his, a romance blooms, and a bunch of things unfold..Felicity has been in the dark about her family for a long time, but evil always shows itself!

REALLY GREAT STORY, AND FUNNY BOOK! I RECOMMEND!

"Demon, Karma, Promises, and Corruption....Oh My!!!"

Keys to the Coven: Demonic Intervention Series is a very entertaining story about Demon, Karma,Witchcraft, and Corruption. Max is a demon, hired to retrieve the Minsk Homunculus for destruction. The Minsk Homunculus belonged to Rose Woodsen. After her passing, the Minsk Homunculus will seek Felicity Woodsen as the next demon consort for Roxashael, an arch-demon.

Felicity has never trusted her mother after being molested by Roxashael when she was five. She has denied herself of being a witch and now with her mother's passing, Felicity is now a sorceress. She has to trust Max to protect her and maybe keep her alive when the Minsk Homunculus is destroyed.

Max has to retrieve the Minsk Homunculus. It became complicated when he has promised Rose Woodsen to protect her daughter Felicity. Felicity has fought him every steps of the way and made deals with Max unknowingly of the consequences. When Roxashael showed up to claim Felicity as his next demon consort, the stakes become higher for Max and Felicity.

What I love about the story is at the beginning of each chapters, there is a phrase provided so the listeners/readers will learn about witchcraft, demons, promises, and karma. The listeners/readers will also learn that promises and deals can be corrupted with a simple wordings when making a deal/promises. I love learning the world of witches, demons, karma, and deals.

I even love the phrases "universe where karma is power, sex is karma, and it's not who you know but whose soul you own that matters" and "But then, why break promises when they're so easy to corrupt?"

The listeners/readers will also see Felicity grows from being a whining bully to someone who finally accepted Max and to do what she can to protect her younger sister and brother from being the next demon consort if she fails. Even in the process, she was also trying to manipulated Max to her will which Max kept refusing.

What I didn't like about the story is that there is so much yelling which was so irritating to me especially from Felicity. I did have to listen to the story the second time which didn't irritate me as much.

I was given this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher via Audiobook Blast in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated or influence in any way for writing this review.

    "Good book"

    STORY REVIEW.......

Good story. Interesting concept for a story. The story is exciting, original,fast-paced, compelling, gripping, addictive, unique and totally unexpected. The dialog is smart, well written and flows smoothly. The characters are fascinating, captivating, quirky, engaging and well developed. I couldn't stop listening to it.

    AUDIO REVIEW......

I found the narrator to be very good at reading the book as well as giving the characters life and voice. A well as attitude and humor. This makes for a great read but I highly recommend getting the audio version for the full effect and enjoyment. Great job.

    "All Demons Aren’t Bad Boyz"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If they were into the genre, then of course I would.

What other book might you compare Keys to the Coven to and why?

Probably the Dresden File book series; although Max in KTTC is a demon, he has a very similar personality to Harry Dresden – dry, sarcastic and all in.

What does Emily Beresford and Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voices of the characters; I know that’s kind of a given but it’s why I choose to listen to audio books over reading a book

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Even demons and witches need love

    Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to reading more in this series

"Better than I thought it would be!"
Where does Keys to the Coven rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book stands out among the others. This author has an amazing imagination.

What other book might you compare Keys to the Coven to and why?

I can't think of any that compare.

Have you listened to any of Emily Beresford and Nick Podehl ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Nick Podehl narrate the book "Worthy". He does an excellent job in anything he does. Both books are completely different genres.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it's rather long. Although it kept my interest.

    Any additional comments?

This is an amazing author. She has an excellent imagination and I felt as if I was right there in the story. Everything you thought you knew about demons, angels, etc, forget about it. Vicky Loebel puts a whole new perspective on it. I look forward to listening/reading more of her books in the near future.

    "Excellent listen"

I first read this book back in 2012 and just now finished the audio version. The work contains love, magic, demons and the eternal quest for power. I enjoyed reading it but listening elevated the experience greatly. The narrator brought each character to life in a way that my minds eye hadn't while reading. Listening also allowed me to pick up on little things that I had missed before. If you have already read the book, don't hesitate to give the audio version a listen too, you won't regret it. If you haven't, you should put it on your to do list. At the time of this review you can get the audio version on Audible for $1.99 if you buy the kindle version first. That's a terrific bargain.

    "DNF.."

At 23% I have no idea WTH is going on. The first stupid thing to happen is when Felicity was on the phone and KNEW the phone wires were causing a fire in the wall and just didn’t care. Then when Max jumped through the window to put out the fire, and Felicity was still mad at her fiancé, she felt the need to slap Max across the face then tried again 2 more times. Huh? Then Max goes to Mr. Wu’s shop so he can listen to the will being read, a shop labeled “Mr. Wu’s Fine Advices.” Really? And, of course, the author doesn’t want you to forget what kind of can Max drives so she mentions the Bugatti 28 times in the first 138 pages then never again. Good grief.

The more I read the stupider and nonsensical the story became. I went back to Amazon and looked at the reviews and saw that I wasn’t the only one who was confused, so I didn’t feel so bad when I decided to stop reading this silly book.

With the help of my iPad I can tell you there’s swearing and the F-bomb is used 38 times and I’d say there’s at least one sex scene but there could be more. I really can’t finish the book to find out. I wonder if the author read the book when she finished the book.

As to the narration: I thought Nick Podehl did a great job on all the voices and read with emotion. BUT Emily Beresford sucked! Her male voices sounded just like the females most of the time. It was like she forgot who was talking. This was narrated in 2013 so hopefully Ms. Beresford has learned more about sounding like a man. 4 stars for Nick and 2 for Emily.
