Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The Republic has fallen. Sith Lords rule the galaxy. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi has lost everything . . . everything but hope.

Tatooine—a harsh desert world where farmers toil in the heat of two suns while trying to protect themselves and their loved ones from the marauding Tusken Raiders. A backwater planet on the edge of civilized space. And an unlikely place to find a Jedi Master in hiding, or an orphaned infant boy on whose tiny shoulders rests the future of a galaxy.

Known to locals only as “Ben,” the bearded and robed offworlder is an enigmatic stranger who keeps to himself, shares nothing of his past, and goes to great pains to remain an outsider. But as tensions escalate between the farmers and a tribe of Sand People led by a ruthless war chief, Ben finds himself drawn into the fight, endangering the very mission that brought him to Tatooine.

Ben—Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, hero of the Clone Wars, traitor to the Empire, and protector of the galaxy’s last hope—can no more turn his back on evil than he can reject his Jedi training. And when blood is unjustly spilled, innocent lives threatened, and a ruthless opponent unmasked, Ben has no choice but to call on the wisdom of the Jedi—and the formidable power of the Force—in his never-ending fight for justice.

Critic reviews

“Buy this book right now. . . . [This novel] manages to explore the depths of Ben Kenobi but still maintains the aura of mystery around his character.” (Tosche Station)

“Brilliant . . . This is Star Wars fiction at its absolute best.” (Examiner)

Great Space Western

After Episode VIII: The Last Jedi destroyed the Star Wars universe, humiliated its greatest characters and rendered all their triumphs and tragedies meaningless, it looks like books from the Expanded Universe and stand-alone stories like this one are our only hope going forward. I really enjoyed this story; it has all the elements of a great Western movie. There is some good action and some genuinely moving scenes.

Loved the book, mixed feelings about the ending

SPOILERS AHEAD DONT READ THIS REVIEW ULESS YOUVE FINISHED THE BOOK!!!

I loved the storyline in this book but the ending left me with a few questions… did Annie and her kids stay on Alderaan for the next 20 years? I sure hope not. Also, would the hutts not hold a grudge against the settlers who fought them? I feel like Jabba would’ve retaliated harder after being embarrassed like that. Beyond that I thought it was a very solid book, enjoyed the listen

Must Read

it's a completely different story from the Kenobi Disney plus series, but so much better. Another legends story that I wish was canon.

great book!

This book reminds you of how well many of the "legends" books were compared to the new works that are focused more on an agenda.

Amazing

Story and narrator both take a bit to catch their stride but once they do, wow. Just get past the set up phase (the first couple hours or so) and then you'll be hooked. Such a good story and very very true to the character in my opinion. Thank you for a wonderful listen!

For Kenobi Fans

Obi Wan didn’t take the spotlight for me for many years. Now that I’m older, he has become my favorite Jedi. All the attributes that make him great shine forth in this “western” in the sky. The performance was top-notch, and there were some unexpected sound effects that added to the experience. And the story itself was excellent as well. If you love the Force, Kenobi, and a great story, you’ll love this. And in case someone actually reads this….may the Force be with you :)
