Publisher's Summary

The high-action concluding novel of the Commonwealth Saga from one of the world's bestselling Science Fiction writers.

After hundreds of years secretly manipulating the human race, the Starflyer alien has succeeded in engineering a war which should result in the destruction of the Intersolar Commonwealth. Now, thanks to Chief Investigator Paula Myo, the Commonwealth’s political elite finally acknowledges the Starflyer’s existence, and puts together an unlikely partnership to track down this enigmatic and terrifying alien.

The invasion from Dyson Alpha continues with dozens of Commonwealth worlds falling to the enemy. The navy fights back with what it believes to be war-winning super weapons, only to find that the alien fleet has equally powerful weapons. How the aliens got them is the question which haunts Admiral Kime. Could it be that the Commonwealth’s top-secret defence project has been compromised by the Starflyer’s agents, or is the truth even worse?

    Story
    "Great read"
If you could sum up Judas Unchained in three words, what would they be?

    Enthralling, gripping, brilliant

What was one of the most memorable moments of Judas Unchained?

    all of it

Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?

All the characters are portrayed brilliantly

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Bought more

    Any additional comments?

This was my first science fiction read, Pandora's Star being Part 1 of the story. Well written story line, paced nicely, all the elements, plots and sub-plots along with the characters brought together perfectly. I would highly recommend this book, and have just bought another, The Void Triology. Really great from start to finish.

The reading by John Lee is utterly brilliant, as usual. I lost count of the different characters, and John Lee gave each one a different distinguishable character and accent. Without being told which character was speaking, you knew.

After many books read by him, I am still in awe of his talent.

"loose story from bad to worse"
What disappointed you about Judas Unchained?

The story develop into a mess of loose threads and the character become less and less convincing.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Alastair Macreinolds

What about John Lee’s performance did you like?

The voice, the characterization, the overall sense of drama

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I had high expectation for this story, especially after the first book of the miniseries (Pandora star) that, although not exceptional suggested interesting development. Sadly, this was not the case.

"Awesome story written by a brilliant mind"
What did you love best about Judas Unchained?

The intertwined lives of the various characters and species, but most of all the complete escape from what we call normal, into a world (Sorry I should say galaxy) that just blows your mind.

    Which scene was your favorite?

There were just too many really interesting and funny scenes to single out any in particular, I really enjoy Peter's sense of humour, and John Lee brings this across so nicely

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

After listening to all of his books on Audible, I started all over again, this is the second time I've listened to The Commonwealth saga, and both books are excellent. This is most definitely a good listen

    Any additional comments?

I would love to meet Peter in person, with a brain that can come up with all the amazing technologies and incredible places and people in the characters in the books as only Peter introduces in his work. He's amazing. Sounds corny but living in one of his worlds sound absolutely amazing, I love listening to his stories.

    Story
"Lengthy & detailed - worth it"
Where does Judas Unchained rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Quite highly

What did you like best about this story?

It managed the maintain a high degree of tension and suspense as the story unfolded, and managed a sci-fi setting that was interesting and consistent and not absurd.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Towards the end there is an entertaining scene where the majority of the cast come together, with amusing dialogue

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    I I doubt I would

    Any additional comments?

this book and it's first instalment both suffer at times from being over long and heavily detailed. some descriptions seem necessary. The counter point to this is that by the end of the two books you have a very good picture of the characters and events involved that adds to the experience.

    "Very detailed and compelling"

Don't buy this unless you already have the first part. On the other hand, if you have the first part, then this is a must.

Incredible detail - all the loose strings (and some you didn't realise were loose) come together in the end. Great story, told in a very matter-of-fact way tht is very believeable.

"great book well worth a listen"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

brilliant book, fantastic conclusion to the commonwealth saga. Hamilton books are full of interesting idea on how human society would be impacted by advance tech. The combines a detective story, planet spanning space opera.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Paula moyo character is constantly brilliant. The calm logic which core of her character is a great foil to the craziness throughout the book universe.

What about John Lee’s performance did you like?

    Strong performance by Mr Lee

    "Brilliant"

I often judge whether a book is good or great by my willingness to revisit it. This book merits a revisit. In fact, so good was the audio book, I bought the paper copy too! The character development and pace of story is impecable and the author's description of 'his' future world is beguiling. This story carries on from Pandora's Star, which I have similarly read and recomend. I can recomend Peter Hamilton in general and this masterpiece in particular. It is well worth a credit!

"Great story, well read, terrible editing!"

I know it happens a lot at editing that sometimes sentences are squeezed together to cut the time down, but this is absolutely the worst case I have heard.

Gaps at the end of sentences or paragraphs that are shorter than the words spoken in the sentence are not only confusing, but they do end up taking away from the enjoyment.

"A nice follow on to Pandora's star"

The plot continues the story in Pandora's star and follows the various characters in uncovering one of the greatest conspiracies of the time.

Don't want to spoil anything at all for anyone interested in listening to this book. One word: Wow! Peter Hamilton is one of the best (if not the best) sci-fi writers of our time and I've just downloaded his next installment. I hope it lives up to these two books!

Really enjoyed the two books, and a very good second half. It is a long book, but the character development keeps you on your toes. Very good narration.

    "Shows promise but falls short"

Amazing narrator, the reason I got the book. Sadly the authors character skills are lacking, they're boring and inconsistent. A book with a lot of potential but fails to live up to greatness due to overwhelming amounts of cliché and dull dull dull characters...

"If you get as far as this book you will love it!!"

The first book of any epic sci-fi series is always hard work because you need to learn 100s of characters and their stories all seem so disparate but by the time the series is concluding and everything comes together and the interwoven stories all make sense it is thrilling. This was a thrilling end to a series, incredibly well written and narrated. It has been with me for so long I will actually miss it!!

"Put it on the other bucket list"

I knew to expect something extraordinary however I found it was just extraordinarily convoluted. Have you ever spent hours reading a large novel but resigned to stop reading it just before the climax? It's painfully but sometimes you just gotta put it in the rubbish bucket.
