Publisher's summary

Pressed into service when World War II breaks out in the Pacific, the USS Walker---a Great-War vintage "four-stacker" destroyer---finds itself in full retreat from pursuit by Japanese battleships. Its captain, Lieutenant Commander Matthew Patrick Reddy, knows that he and his crew are in dire straits. In desperation, he heads Walker into a squall, hoping it will give them cover---and emerges somewhere else.

Familiar landmarks appear, but the water teems with monstrous, vicious fish. And there appear to be dinosaurs grazing on the plains of Bali. Gradually Matt and his crew must accept the fact that they are in an alternate world---and they are not alone. Humans have not evolved, but two other species have. And they are at war.

With its steam power and weaponry, the Walker's very existence could alter the balance of power. And for Matt and his crew, who have the means to turn a primitive war into a genocidal Armageddon, one thing becomes clear: They must decide whose side they're on. Because whoever they choose to side with is the winner.

An Excellent Read

Detailed, intricate, well written and as smooth as apple crispe in its telling. A fantastic action packet tale of soldiers unnatually far from home and facing an unlikely reality way outside their own pay grade. Only issue is that the chapters audio is slightly choppy throughout the whole story.

Awesome Book! Can’t wait to read the next books

I normally don’t read fictional books, but this book was totally awesome and I’m hooked! The story line is very creative and you’re attached to the characters and want to know what happens next. The author’s in depth knowledge of history and nautical terms add rich icing to a great cake!

Not so difficult to believe

Yes, the story of a World War II destroyer that slips into an alternate universe inhabited by friendly, intelligent lemur-cat creatures that are engaged in an epic battle with the malignant lizard like Grik might seem a bit farfetched, but this is 2008 so nothing should seem too unbelievable. It is very fun to hear. I'm downloading the sequel, Destroyermen:Crusade tonight.

A Good Start!

Into the Storm is a good start to a series that has real potential. Taylor Anderson starts with a good storyline. He does start slow however. Anderson seems to be personally facinated with naval warfare and so becomes very involved with his battle between the US and the Japanese at the beginning of this work. As much as it adds to the later series it drags this book down to a crawl to begin with. It also seems that his characters are a little slow on the uptake. I'm not sure someone who spent as much time on the sea as Anderson lets on his main characters have, would be so slow as to not realize their situation much sooner than he allows them to in the book. Anderson gets off to a good start with this book even though it moves about as fast in the beginning as a fully loaded frieghter under tow by a tug.

Even though William Dufris has many books under his belt and is an accomplished vocal theaspian, he seems to struggle early on with this work. It was not bad but it was noticable. As the book continued however he seems to settle in and become comfortable with his subject. When taken as a whole this work is good start to finish.

Looking forward to book 2

Great characters, an interesting adventure and excellent narration. I will probably go right to the next book. The only surprise was that the ending almost requires you to go on to the next book. The ending seemed to cut off in the middle of the adventure without a conclusion. Still, well worth the credit. Just get ready to get all 4 books if you like the first one.
