ok, I give up

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This is really something more for action fans and those who love D&D

Has In Sylvan Shadows turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but I won't continue the series - I didn't mind the first but was hoping the next story would bring more depth to the characters and story. The characters are very one dimensional and the story is just not anything special - good vs evil but I don't like any of the characters enough [or hate them enough!] to keep my interest

What does Victor Bevine bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Victor Bevine does a wonderful job with the narration - the voices flow seamlessly and are all identifiable - well done

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

boredom . . .

Love it

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would it's not as perfect as the drizzt books but pretty close

What did you like best about this story?

All of it

What about Victor Bevine’s performance did you like?

All of it

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Money maker

Any additional comments?

Thank you ra and audible

So very good

This book is very well written and the narrator did a great job. There is a point where the narrator refers to Elbereth as Elizabeth though. I listened to it three times to confirm. Went back and opened the actual book to confirm and the book has the name correct. I believe it was chapter 5; quiet. Great book though.

I am biased

I like D&D so this is right up my alley.

It is straightforward and you know what conclusion will occur.

It is not nearly as mysterious as say the first few drizzt books in the under dark. Nor as in-depth of a history or information given as in those books regarding the under dark. If you read them you’d understand.

It is a fun journey regardless from start to finish. The moral dilemmas i suppose aren’t very deep. But they do well enough.

If you like elf’s killing orcs and such it’s good regardless.

Should have known better

What did you like best about In Sylvan Shadows? What did you like least?

The reader has a few vocal idiosyncracies I found distracting but that's me being far too sensitive to that kind of thing. I really wish Salvatore had spent more time on his potentially interesting characters and less timeon blow by blow bloody combat scenes. I don't *CARE* how so and so ducked and spun and leaped and sliced and blood gouted from this or that, I want to know what happened to the characters and the plot.

What was most disappointing about R. A. Salvatore’s story?

I wish there'd been more plot and less combat descriptions. You do not need to describe every stroke of combat. it kills the pacing. I just stopped caring about 3/4 the way through.

Which scene was your favorite?

Any scene where we actually have a balance of plot moving forward and characters interacting meaningfully. I think there were about five or six in the whole darn book.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

I should have known I wasn't going to get good writing out of RA "I Love Drizzt" Salvatore. Oh well.

Still good after decades

This is still a good story decades after it was written. I remember reading a story when I was in high school in the 1990s right after it came out. When I saw this book on audible. I bought it just to read the story again. As the Universe the author has created has unfolded the characters in the story really don’t play a significant role. However, this story does play a significant role as a whole. I am trying not to ruin the story for anyone who has not read this book or any of the rest in the series. There is a lot of great information here and a lot of good character development. Even after almost 30 years, the story could be released today and still sell quite well.

Great series, great Salvatore

First off Victor Bevine is a rare breed of reader and a book I loved as a child was brought to life in a way I wasn’t expecting. There is so much to love about this series and although Drizzt rightfully gets love, this book doesn’t as much as it should.
