Publisher's summary

Joanne Baldwin is a Weather Warden. Usually, all it takes is a wave of her hand to tame the most violent weather. But now, she's trying to outrun another kind of storm: accusations of corruption and murder. So, she's resorting to the very human tactic of running for her life.... Her only hope is Lewis, the most powerful warden known. Unfortunately, he's stolen not one but three bottles of Djinn - making him the most wanted man on earth. Still, she's racing hard to find him - before the bad weather closes in fast.

LOVED IT!

What did you love best about Ill Wind?

Fast moving and very well read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joann as she's a sassy girl with grit. Second I like David... he came in under the radar and turned out to be a knight in shining armor.

Which character – as performed by Dina Pearlman – was your favorite?

Raquel, the gin always dressed in neon.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Joann laid eyes on the car that would replace Delilah, her mustang.

Any additional comments?

I prefer to read sequels as I am always wanting more. Ill Wind left me excited to listen to the rest of the books (and there's many - woo who!).

slow start

if you can be patient and you have read prior books by this author you will enjoy this book but it takes a little while to get into. it's a little bit slow to start but the story is good and now I am looking forward to a sequel.

Great Storyline

excellent world, characters and ideas - the narrator is a bit monotone and would like to hear better voices for the characters.

Don't miss this series!!

I recently finished reading all the books for this series for the 2nd time. I decided to review them all together because I think of them as one long book, not to be read out of order. I've never finished a series of books, turned right around and started them over again, but that's how much I loved this story and the characters. I loved Joann and David as a couple, I love their steadfast love story, David is the man most women wished they had. They have a difficult time, go thru a roller coaster from hell, each book cranking up the OMG factor as far as inhumanly possible. But, Rachel Caine out does herself with this complicated story with so many well drawn, fantastic characters and a freaking crazy plot that is totally unique. There is a lot of humor added in to give my heart a rest from time to time, but damn....what a story!

Weather Wardens Ill Wind is a fair breeze.

Very exciting story well written and well read. I was enthralled by this story. I enjoyed the narration of Dina Pearlman. She does justice to Rachel's writing. All my thanks to both of them.

Good Premise, fun read

I really enjoyed the characters and storyline in this book and I have to confess I was a bit surprised when it came out who Joanne's protagonist was. The reader did make it fun to listen to also.

Blows in Slowly but builds up to Tropical Storm

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

It's a good solid story in the modern world mixes with folklore stuff. I like the concept of Weather Wardens. I would like to hear more about other kinds of Wardens. The plot keeps pace and there's plenty of frolicking in between.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narrator did well- voices solid, moved with pace of the action

Any additional comments?

I felt the ending was a bit of a let down. Huge build up and then...bam I almost missed it.

Oh my! Why did I wait so long?

Read from July 04 to 07, 2013

Listened/Read for Fun (Library Audiobook/Paper Copy)
Overall Rating: 5.00
Story Rating: 5.00
Character Rating: 5.00

Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: Oh my! Why did I wait so long to start reading these!

Story Thoughts: Confession: Urban Fantasy is always hit/miss with me. I love strong women characters but I also need them to not be totally unidentifiable (they must have quirks and flaws). Ill Wind was right on the money with what I expect out of a very good Urban Fantasy novel. It had action right from the get-go! The story and character building happened as the story progressed instead of being an information dump. It also had heart! I was just really sucked in from beginning to the cliffhanger ending (I didn't dock Ill Wind for this but I did the next one LOL--you only get one cliffhanger free pass from me)!

Character Thoughts: Ill Wind's characters ROCKED! Hard core rocked! I immediately felt myself rooting for JoAnne even though I wasn't sure if she could be saved (OK--as lead of the series I had a pretty good idea but you never know). I loved her fight to do right, her bone-headed ability to turn down the easy fix, and her end struggle! I loved all the boys too: Lewis, Phil, and David. I even liked the Weather Wardens that were on her tail! In other words, the characters totally sold me on this series.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Dina Pearlman / Length: 10 hrs and 6 mins

I have never listened to a book narrated by Dina Pearlman before but I will again in the future. I thought she did a great job with the pacing, emotion, and timing of Ill Wind.

Final Thoughts: I am on board with the Weather Wardens!
