New York Times best-selling author Meagan Spooner spins a thoroughly thrilling Beauty and the Beast story for the modern age, expertly woven with spellbinding romance, intrigue, and suspense that listeners won't soon be able to forget.

Beauty knows the Beast's forest in her bones - and in her blood. After all, her father is the only hunter who's ever come close to discovering its secrets. So when her father loses his fortune and moves Yeva and her sisters out of their comfortable home among the aristocracy and back to the outskirts of town, Yeva is secretly relieved. Out in the wilderness, there's no pressure to make idle chatter with vapid baronessas or to submit to marrying a wealthy gentleman. But Yeva's father's misfortune may have cost him his mind, and when he goes missing in the woods, Yeva sets her sights on one prey: the creature he'd been obsessively tracking just before his disappearance. The Beast.

Deaf to her sisters' protests, Yeva hunts this strange creature back into his own territory - a cursed valley, a ruined castle, and a world of magical creatures that Yeva's only heard about in fairy tales. A world that can bring her ruin - or salvation. Who will survive: the Beauty or the Beast?

This writer has successfully reinvigorated a long loved fairy tale. The world woven of words builds from something mundane and easily relatable to a world of magic; a world with it's very own set of rules. This book could have quite easily been drug out over several volumes but I'm heartily glad that the writer kept the story moving along without overburdening the reader with detail that our imaginations are perfectly capable of providing.

a new angle on an old tale

I enjoyed this audiobook for the performance. The story was mediocre, but it was a decent retelling of the beauty and the beast fairytale.

Solid but not ground breaking

Loved the story. More like a YA novel. Nice twist on old tale. I recommend.

I am so pleased Kylie Scott tweeted about this book. It is such a familiar tale that I was surprised to find myself so engrossed, as if I had never heard it before. Not one single second was wasted acknowledging the narrators because they were so perfect for this story it was as if they did not exist. I would recommend this book to anyone. Thank you!

So well written, so we'll performed. Fantastic!

I really enjoyed this book. I think the only downside was that I kept picturing the beast as the Disney cartoon character? LOL! I guess the pacing was slow but that fit the story and the solitude of being alone in the woods.

Great retelling of Beauty and the Beast

45 minutes in and I can't seem to catch. Sad really, as I wanted to love this story.

SLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWW

I love Disney's original "Beauty and the Beast" and basically grew up on it as a child, so I couldn't walk away from this book without trying it and let me tell you, it did not dissapoint. At certain points in the story I thought I could predict what was to come but then was pleasantly surprised when the author decided to go down a different path.

I took long walks in the snowy forest next to where I live so the setting and ambience really set the mood for me for this book. I finished listening to it in 3 days. THAT ENDING had me weeping, I was not prepared at all. Overall, the story was incredible and exciting, the performance was amazing (the female performance could be slightly improved, however) and I just loved it, 100% recommend.

One word: LOVE.

I seek out all versions of Beauty & The Beast, and this was a captivating tale. It does involve lots of forest time (some of it is magical) but also three separate home experiences as the story unravels. It is a new perspective on fairy tales that involves a lot of emotion, darkness, uncertainty, grueling journeys, a puppy companion, and a deep slow blossoming love. There were two points in the story where I was shaking my head at the turn of events and heroine's choices! Persevere though; it is worth it to make it to the end (or is it) of the journey. There are very brief glimpses from the Beast's perspective throughout that are interesting. Thank goodness we get a little more after the ending in a vague epilogue, as there was so much sorrow and character growth throughout that us readers/listeners need a little more reassurance that we did indeed get a happy ending. Overall, this story definitely makes you think for awhile when it's over about sacrifices and what simple pleasures truly make us content.
