"My name is Lucas Soul. Today, I died again. This is my 15th death in the last 450 years."
Soul is an outcast of the Immortal Societies. Born of a Bastian mother and a Crovir father, a half-breed who is abhorred by the two races, he spends the first 350 years of his existence being chased and killed by the Hunters.
One fall night in Boston, the Hunt starts again, resulting in Soul's 15th death and triggering a chain of events that sends him on the run with Reid Hasley, a former US Marine and his human business partner. From Paris to Prague, their search for answers leads them deep into the Immortal societies and brings them face to face with someone from Soul's past. Shocking secrets are revealed and fresh allies come to the fore as they uncover a new and terrifying threat to both immortals and humans.
To defeat his enemies, Soul must embrace his tortured fate and become the Hunter. But time is running out. Can he protect the ones he loves and prevent another Immortal War before his 17th and final death?
Hunted is the first installment in AD Starrling's multi-award winning, action thriller series Seventeen. If you like high-octane, fast-paced adventures that combine science and a dose of the paranormal, then you'll love the world of Seventeen.

Soul Meaning by A.D. Starrling is the first book in a series called Soul Meaning. Lucas Soul is a private detective and a half-breed immortal. When the hunters of the immortal race Crovir start hunting him, Lucas is suddenly on the run after centuries of silence. His investigation leads him from Boston to Washington DC to all over Europe. Accompanied by his human partner, Reid Hasley, Lucas fights for his life and steps into the politics of the immortal races. Lucas must figure out the motivation of the Crovir hunters and address them before the immortal society comes crashing down and kills him.
This is a fast paced action adventure with a lot of suspenseful intrigue built on a really cool back story to make it really exciting. Starrling has created a really interesting shadow world of immortals that lives amongst, but hidden, from humans. The unique nature of the immortal deaths and how Lucas fits into the world works really well. I really liked the characters, their evolving relationships and the way that the politics of the immortal world is developed for the reader as the story continues. Lucas is a compelling main character. While he is somewhat of an underdog, his considerable skills at fighting and the revelations about his unique position in the immortal world lift him into a pretty complex character. His interactions with Reid, politicians, and other immortals are fun to listen to and move the story forward. There is also a romantic component to the novel that I thought was merely okay, but its addition to the storyline was necessary for some plot points. I did find some of the action scenes to be too much to follow along with, but that's a personal preference. While the motivation of the villain of the story is seemingly cliché, the way that Starling has incorporated science into the plotline made it interesting and novel. The scientific motivation really made the backstory exciting for me and made we want to find out more about some of the complexities of the immortal races.
The narration by Michael Bower was really excellent. His voicing of the characters really well, including all the accents, and was well paced. The well-executed articulation of the sighs or laughs really brought the story to life and is a great skill for a narrator. The production quality was good as well. I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes face paced action adventure stories with a touch of science.

🌺 Lover of Amazing Stories 🌺
You barely have a moment to breath because this story just jumps from 0 to 120 miles per hour with action! I love this story of immortals gone insane.lol
Reid and Lucas were the perfect duo of best friends a.k.a. business partners! And who wouldn't want a friend like Reid to watch your 6 when everyone is out to kill you?!
You get a bit of mystery, a bio-hazard scare, a light romance (although the eww factor is there for me, the coupling was just so wrong for me) and ACTION! I have absolutely no complaints with the action. Almost non-stop action is what I love in stories I listen to. And this stories delivers it tenfold!
Time is running out Lucas Soul, half breed of a Bastian Mother and a Crovir Father, which neither race likes, only has a few more lives remaining. But when a job comes through the Private Investigators office where Lucas works with his partner Reid, it turns things bad and sends them both running for their lives.
This is a great action packed, well written book. The characters are awesome, interesting and the story has so many twists and trap doors to fall thru, but you have to get up and run some more it just does not stop.
I have the audible version and Michael Bower could not have done a better job with all the voices of the different characters and accents, he was wonderful and I hope he continues on with the series as he did such a awesome job.
But either format you choose you won't be disappointed by Soul Meaning it was such a good start to the series. Also don't forget about the novella First Death which will explain some of Lucas' backstory and is well worth it in either form.
I enjoyed the journey through Europe, and the nearly nonstop action. I couldn't stop listening. I was also enthralled by the reader. His ability to make each person stand out made it play like a movie for my imagination.
This story is high intensity action similar to the movie SPEED. And it will not slow down. There are very few slow spots in this audio, and those that are there, are spots where we catch our breath.
Lucas Soul is an immortal half breed who has just died his 15th death in 450 years. His task is to find out why, and to find a way to bring peace to his heart ... which is missing something or someone. And since he only has 17 lives to start with, this is becoming more and more urgent.
Listen as he delves in to the families feud between the races of Cravers and Bastians and uses his wry humour to decipher the events that surround him.
A fantastic pacing kept me on the edge of my seat as this story moved forward.
Great start to a series. I recommend it highly.
Lucas was by far my favourite character.
Yes, I wanted to, but it is made so difficult by not being able to sit that long.
This was a good book but I think I may have enjoyed it more with a different narrator. This narrator seemed very flat in places. However, if you're looking for a book, try it, you may like his style.
I live to ride my bike.
A unique plot. A fast pace with lots of action. Waiting for the next one in the series.
