In a post-apocalyptic ice age, neomage Thorn St. Croix was nearly driven insane by her powers. She lived as a fugitive, disguised as a human, channeling her gifts for war into stone-magery. When she was discovered, her friends and neighbors accepted her, but warily.
Not so the mage who arrives from the Council of Seraphs, who could be her greatest ally or her most dangerous foe. And when her long-gone sister, Rose, is revealed to still be alive, Thorn must make a choice - and risk her own life in the process.

"Hunter's world continues to expand in this highly original fantasy with lively characters where nothing can ever be taken for granted." (Publishers Weekly)
Faith Hunter paints a pretty impressive image it is easy to emerge into her characters and place your self in the story line. I enjoyed the series and will look out for new books from this Author
Many say I am easily entertained because I have given many 5star ratings, but I KNOW what I like, have my favorites, and choose accordingly.
I have, to friends, people I meet in book stores etc. WHY? Because Faith Hunter always delivers a wonderful world to loose myself in!
Thorn St Croix. I love her strength.
I can't pick just one. I have Natalie Gold on my favorite narrators list.
I like what the trade size cover says..."The Apocalypse Takes Wing"
Faith Hunter has become one of my all time favorite authors. She never gives anything but her best!
I love to read. I never go anywhere without a book. My 'To Reads' are piled on my bed and in the bathroom. I listen in the drive to work.
I found the breathless, mournful narration of this series irritating and mostly inappropriate for the story. Instead of casting the central characters as the strong leader she should have been, she became almost put upon and a victim. The story itself has some really great descriptive passages and exciting scenes but the plot is just a bit convoluted for my taste.
The Editing of the audio is awful. you can obviously hear where they cut the audio. Never hear that in other books.
The story was a decent story, wish I would have read these instead of listened to them.
it wasn't her fault it was the audio editing
Like Kevin Hearn, Robert Crais, Ellis Peters. Hate Romance genre.
The interesting plot, strong characterizations, and uniquely intelligent religious speculation are deeply marred by the over use and misuse of excess (and incorrectly used) "vocabulary" words. Additionally the narrator's odd, randomly breathy phrasing is beyond maddening. It's a testament to how good the book is that I was willing to suffer through the narrator's mangling the pronunciation and phrasing.I say read these books, but read them to yourself.
Any one. Anyone at all. But I'd like to hear Luke Daniels tackle it.
Okay I super loved this series! At first it was hard to catch on to all the new term and narrator because I just finished a 9 book series of the authors as well. I do not like the ending! There is definitely room for another book and I know that isn't happening, I am sad!
I live in Florida, I'm Cerified Hypnotherapist, Recover Coach & Trainer, NLP, Theta Healing and Energy Healing. I'm all so a Process Server in Palm Beach County.
I carefully would recommend this series to anyone! Faith Hunter is the next let writer and brought the characters to life.
Great story, just not sure about the ending. It felt as if the ending was a bit rushed. I think that there was an attempt to tie up all loose ends yet leave open for a followup book making for a less than comfortable finish.
The war was the best.
I had to stop and re-listen to many parts to catch some of the complex story line.
Host is up in the top easy listening stories.
I am here little Mage, as I promised. In Life, in Battle and Love.
Thorn and Eli were my favorite, but they all were good.
I don't know but I would go to watch.
