Publisher's summary

In a post-apocalyptic ice age, neomage Thorn St. Croix was nearly driven insane by her powers. She lived as a fugitive, disguised as a human, channeling her gifts for war into stone-magery. When she was discovered, her friends and neighbors accepted her, but warily.

Not so the mage who arrives from the Council of Seraphs, who could be her greatest ally or her most dangerous foe. And when her long-gone sister, Rose, is revealed to still be alive, Thorn must make a choice - and risk her own life in the process.

I am glad I purchased this book

Faith Hunter paints a pretty impressive image it is easy to emerge into her characters and place your self in the story line. I enjoyed the series and will look out for new books from this Author

let's use the entire the thesaurus!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The interesting plot, strong characterizations, and uniquely intelligent religious speculation are deeply marred by the over use and misuse of excess (and incorrectly used) "vocabulary" words. Additionally the narrator's odd, randomly breathy phrasing is beyond maddening. It's a testament to how good the book is that I was willing to suffer through the narrator's mangling the pronunciation and phrasing.I say read these books, but read them to yourself.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Natalie Gold?

Any one. Anyone at all. But I'd like to hear Luke Daniels tackle it.

Good story line

like the story line and the series, but at times want to fast forward thru her "visions" .

A bit too romancey

I listened to the entire series, but I just found it a bit too...romancey. Grant it, not a lot of sex, just lots of compulsatory lust. The story elements, on the other hand, were good, and it was entertaining.

Breathless and twisting

I found the breathless, mournful narration of this series irritating and mostly inappropriate for the story. Instead of casting the central characters as the strong leader she should have been, she became almost put upon and a victim. The story itself has some really great descriptive passages and exciting scenes but the plot is just a bit convoluted for my taste.

Editing Aweful

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The Editing of the audio is awful. you can obviously hear where they cut the audio. Never hear that in other books.

The story was a decent story, wish I would have read these instead of listened to them.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

That's it....

What didn’t you like about Natalie Gold’s performance?

it wasn't her fault it was the audio editing

I LOVE FAITH HUNTER'S BOOKS!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have, to friends, people I meet in book stores etc. WHY? Because Faith Hunter always delivers a wonderful world to loose myself in!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Thorn St Croix. I love her strength.

Which character – as performed by Natalie Gold – was your favorite?

I can't pick just one. I have Natalie Gold on my favorite narrators list.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I like what the trade size cover says..."The Apocalypse Takes Wing"

Any additional comments?

Faith Hunter has become one of my all time favorite authors. She never gives anything but her best!

Where is the rest?

As always Faith hunter created a world full of great characters, plots, background etc.. being that this is the end of the series I expected more closure, the way things ended with thorn and her sister rose doesn’t sit right with me. She showed little care and compassion for someone she professed to love. Someone she knows has gone through years of extreme Torture! What happened to everyone and everything else? Where’s the closure for this series?

It's ok

it's not the best storyline. I listened to her Jane Yellowrock series. This one was before that and missing a lot of character. The restrictions put on the characters kind of hampered them.

drags at times

Narrator was ho-hum in some places. The author explains some things one too many times. Boring only necause of the narrator. She had no life in her. zzzzzzzz
