Drizzt, His conflicts of life as a Drow are very exciting
The book had a small glitch occasionally. Narration would cut out and some strange noises would occur. Did not reduce my enjoyment of the book though. Great listen.
These three books have long been a favorite of mine and I've wanted to share them with my wife, who does not have time to read. when these came out I was thrilled that they were out but a bit nervous as with anything someone cherishes you don't know how it will be relayed when presented in a new form.
Victor Bevine does a fantastic job of reading this entire series. you relays the urgency in the books just as well as the the drama, and tension. Just a fantastic narration of one of my all time favorite books.
If you have never tried this series I urge anyone to start with book one and stick with them. the first book starts off a little slow but only because their is such a big world that needs to be created in your mind. midway through the book you will be cursing the times that you have to stop listening to do anything else.
I read these books years ago and have been intrigued with the enigmatic Drow that is Drizzt Do' Urden ever since. The Dark Elf Trilogy was the first of any of R.A. Salvatore's books that I had ever read and fell in love with the tales of his travels and adventures. If you've ever wondered about Drizzt and what "made" him the way that he is, this is the best place to start. Victor Bevine also does an excellent job in bringing the story to life, you can almost "see" the underdark caverns!
I read R. A. Salvatore's stories, "The Legend of Drizzt".
It Begins Here!
Everything! I love this story and now I can listen to it over and over again!
He does the voices great! Hes getting a lot better with voicing Dwarfs.
The Legend Begins Here
If you enjoy a great story with even greater fights R. A. Salvatore is your guy! Buy Homeland and begin your journey with Drizzt Do'Urden!
R A Salvatore is one of the greatest fantasy writers ever. when you read his books you they just grab you and you can't stop reading. I have read all his books and their is not 1 that I don't like.
It was a look inside drow society. It explains alot of how why and makes you understand the true depth of evil of the drow and of how couragiouse drizzit truly is to become the hero we know and love. If your new to R.A. salvator;s Drizzit then this is the first book of all of his adventures and sets the stage magnificently.
The voice acotr was awesome truly brought the story to life. He brought life to the charecters and did diffrent accents and was very easy to determine naration of differing charecters.
My taste vary. I love a good, blood stained horror, but also a well written kids story. Lots of Sci-Fi, but also Hist. Fiction. No boring!!!
I don't know if it is the author or just this these Forgotten Realm books, but I can't into these. Everything is magical or enchanted, the plethora of adjectives and adverbs are uncountable. To me good writing does not need all of these descriptive narratives. For my fantasy I prefer Robin Hobb, she gets in my head.
This is very popular with a certain set of the fantasy world. I believe if you like Terry Brooks, you will love this.
The narrator was good.
Yes. Got me hooked to the character and the universe.
Victor delivers lines with true emotion, appropriately getting excited as you are and delivering spoken lines in a way that conveys the emotion of the speaker. It made the fight scenes more intense as he pulls you in, and the conversations more fun to listen to. Great delivery overall and probably the main reason I'll buy the rest of the series..
After the first 2 chapters or so which are quite slow, the book hits a highpoint that it never lets go of.
I had no experience with the series, the character or D&D in general, and came in hoping for a good fantasy novel. It's one of the best I've ever read and I can't wait to listen to the next one. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys fantasy books. Excellent writing and spot on delivery.
Fantasy geek, literature lover!
I've already done that in the headline. Of course, there's more, but this is a action-packed novel, suitable to anyone who's into D&D or into combat-oriented fantasy. There are of course other themes here as well, but they are just tackled with no real intention to go deeper (gender situation, friendship, family ties, etc.)
This novel is not a chorus of different characters, all equally important. Here there's a clear distinction between main characters and extras. Of course, the reader is strongly encouraged to like the protagonist and the mentor, that is to say his father. There are a couple of other interesting characters (the masked wizard, Drittz's sister Vierna) but they are underdeveloped.
Bevine did mostly a good job. He's a pro, so he knows his craft. Still, sometimes he reads a little too fast, even though the reason is comprehensible (an action-packed novel calls for... well, action). As in this trilogy Drittz is very young, I would have preferred a younger voice but that is a matter of personal preference, no fault with the performer.
A day without sunshine is like, well, night.
Reading through various recommendations from other Fantasy readers, I stumbled upon this book and figured I would give it a try. What an outstanding surprise, and I look forward to enjoying other books by RA Salvatore. A novel of intense passion and inner turmoil. Wonderful character development and an intriguing society. It has been a long time since I've enjoyed a book that sucks me in as effortlessly as Homeland. The narrators style compliments the writing and the story is exciting and detailed. Very well done. Do not miss this one.
