First Time with Drizzt

I've heard so many great things, and figured it was time to try out the first Drizzt book. I've always been a fan of D&D and Forgotten Realms. This book did not disappoint, and the narrator was outstanding. I can see why R.A. Salvatore is so celebrated among fantasy authors.

As this was also my first run-through with an audiobook, it took a chapter or two to get used to listening rather than reading. But once I was able to give the book my undivided attention, I became engrossed in the world of the Underdark and the lore of the dark elves.

While I have nothing to compare it to, I think the narrator could have brought the spirit of characters out with a little more emotion and dramatic voice tones. Still, a fine job.

A great story, and I will continue to read and explore the world of Salvatore!

Got my Ad&d Forgotten Realms fix and then some!

I started reading this way back when but never got around to finishing it, praise the Lord for audio books. I miss playing Ad&d and this brought me right back, it had all the game mechanics I remember from the tabletop game all it was missing was the voice of a dungeon master. I played Menzobarizan on PC as well and although I don't remember much from that game being that I played it 20 plus years ago this book brought most of it back. I am sure the reason I play evil races, especially the Drow is because of Drizzt but I digress. Just finished homeland so it's on to the next one, Exile I think? Anyways even after 20 years and more I found this book current and I have now realized how many other authors were influenced by this, an assumption of course but while listening to this i couldn't help but think that A song of fire and ice by the great GRRMartin borrowed or at least had similar fantasy ideas from this or im sure just from Ad&d in general because as we all know, after Tolkien started it all dungeons and dragons took that world and ran with it. Anyone who has ever played those games can honestly say that their way of a fantasy settings is rooted in it so it must bear fruit through that person consciously or subconsciously. 5 stars!

Awesome start to the series. Salvatore does a good job of developing characters and providing background. There is something in every chapter that keeps you wanting more.

Wonderful Start to an amazing series!

If you could sum up Homeland in three words, what would they be?

Intriguing, Dramatic, Amazing.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I couldn't stop listening.

Any additional comments?

Amazing start to an incredible series. I am not a fan of science fiction novels but this book was enough to have me purchase the remainder of the series. The narration is incredibly rich and has just enough changes to keep the listener interested not sleepy.

Not what I expected, but not sure why!

When I started this book, I was unsure if I was going to continue. The beginning was a little strange. Not much story going on, just a lot of fanfare. As I got into the book however, and the story began to play out, I really enjoyed it. I like fantasy books, but they are not my favorite genre, so I was not really sure what to expect from this book. It really is a good book, and a story told very well by the author. Very strong characters, and the story line really pulled me through the novel quickly. The narrator did a great job as well. On to the next book in the series!

fantastic book

I loved this book and it has been my introduction into the character that is Drizzt Do'urden. It's well narrated and though the narrator gives men and women different voices, most of the characters sound alike which can make it hard to remember who's talking but overall a fantastic experience
