Pilgrimage is a stand-alone post-apocalyptic story of survival. It was previously published as three separate novellas: Crossing, Refuge, and Advent. High School teacher James Rockwell is vacationing in Maine with his family, when an earth-changing explosion sends them on a race for their lives. Their first step is escaping an island in the midst of a tsunami, and it only gets more dangerous from there. Can they find their way home as civilization crumbles around them? Story
Before the lights went out, Jack Warrant never considered himself a prepper. That was someone on the edge, a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday cultist who had a fatalistic view of the world. He was neither a theorist nor a cultist. He was an optimist. At least that was what he told himself when the darker thoughts creeped into his psyche as he stared at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Whenever he started down the rabbit hole, he always clawed his way back into the sunlight.

Story
The Alt Apocalypse is the ground-breaking, genre-bending series from Tom Abrahams. It explores survival under the most extreme circumstances, but with a twist (and no cliff-hangers). This series, which can be listened to in any order, features the same core characters in each complete story. But every book dunks them into a new, alternate apocalypse; a nuclear holocaust, an earthquake, a flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, a plague, and even zombies.

Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

People have resorted to scavenging from the dead, or taking from the living. The entire industrialized world has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, decaying bodies, and feral animals. To stay alive, U.S. Deputy Marshal Mason Raines must forage for food, water, and gasoline while outgunning those who seek to take advantage of the apocalyptic anarchy. With each deadly encounter, Mason is force to accept his place as one of the nation's few remaining lawmen. The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

This series, which can be listened to in any order, features the same core characters in each complete story. One man, his home, his rules.
Marcus Battle was a prepper, he wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but he knew something was going to happen sometime soon. He was prepared for almost anything, but when the pneumonic plague started to breakout in the US, he could only be so prepared. After nearly losing everything, the only thing that Battle had left was his home. The home that he prepped with his wife and son. The home that he needed to protect against anyone or anything.
Narration was done by Kevin Pierce, and I knew I’d listened to another book he narrated — once I looked it up I laughed. It was another prepper tale. He really has the perfect voice of a prepper, especially one that has a military background. Pierce just allows for the perfect flawed main character to shine strong (that and really good writing on Abrahams’ part).
The funniest thing about this book to me is that it wasn’t toted as being a bio-thriller. The name “plague” wasn’t in it, there were no biohazard symbols on the cover, and yet the scourge that was taking over and killing people was better documented than in most of the books I’ve read lately. Seriously, I wouldn’t in any way describe this as a bio-thriller, but it has elements of it.
Battle was an interesting main character and protagonist. There were things that he would say or do that could or would turn off most people from liking him if you didn’t understand his story. But the way Abrahams would flip back and forth from backstory to present day made the story really fall together. Honestly when an author flips so much it’s usually hard to follow but this really helped make a “simple” story come to life. Yes, its about a man surviving on his land by his terms, but it was so much more.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable story. I found myself wanting to sit in my car longer to hear just a little more, or staying up a little too late. Abrahams has a way of keeping the readers hanging on every word. This finished, and I really wanted more. But at the same time it was the perfect, the story arc was complete with room to add more in the next book.
Another thing that I noticed was that a lot of prepper books feel like they have an agenda. Either trying to see things the way they do, or promoting a certain political party. This book was different. It was written as a post-apocalyptic and dystopian novel first, with a little bit of prepper mentality sprinkled in.
Now, I have to wait until the next book is on audiobook and hope that Kevin Pierce narrates it.

Good all around but...
Just too dang short. All 3 are short. Make it 2 books instead of 3. This book 1 leaves off mid story. I appreciate mystere, but this is mid plot. Plays "desperate for 3 books" vs "interestingly crafted cliffhanger"
Kevin Pierce is awesome, as usual.
Ready to see what happens in book 2, someone owes me a audible credit! :)

Great post-apocalyptic book without the propaganda
Great book with lots of action. And best of all, it wasn't loaded with all the paranoid, political nonsense some of the books are plagued with. It was just plain enjoyable and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

A Uniquely different dystopian book
Where does Home - A Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian Adventure rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is definitely a good story, probably in my top 25
Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, he does an excellent job of conveying emotions and character development
Any additional comments?
I don't do spoiler reviews. This book does a wonderful job of telling a story within a story using flashbacks to build up the current story line. It's not an easy thing to do but the author does it well by keeping the flashbacks short and intense but without taking away from the main story. I will be using next month's credit to get the next book in the series.

Mehh
Everyone in a post apocalyptic world apparently has a Browning shotgun? The main character is to far fetched and not realistic at all. Half way in I struggled to get thru it. The ending if you can call it that is by far the worst buy the next book money grab I have ever seen. Will not be continuing this series. Kevin Pierce’s narrating saved this from a 1 star review.

Deja vu
I am about 99% sure that a lot of these books are all written by the same author under different pen names and it’s not just the fact that they all have the same narrator. The books aren’t horrible they’re just all the same. Stoic, brooding, Ex military, god fearing, Texan hero rescuing the distressed damsel in the face of economic collapse, plague or disaster. The story lines change minimally, and the wording and sentence structures are too similar, which gets tiresome after reading a few of the other series by other/same authors. Time to change it up.

What would you do to protect your home?
Despite being a prepper and thinking him and his family are ready for anything, Battles life is devastated when the pneumonic plague called The Scourge hits. He loses everything he holds dear and now protects the only thing he has, his home. But even now, his home is under treat when a woman turns up unexpectedly and looks for help. He knows nothing of the outside world so is shocked that mafia style rulers are ruling the area and they aren't happy that one of their servants has gone missing. Can Battle survive and protect all he has left?
I have to say that I loved this and absolutely flew through it. I loved the way it's told in both present format with snippets of the past. We really get a feel of who Battle is and how he came to be the way he is. He has prepared his whole life for something to happen, and while he is ready by being totally off the grid and self sufficient, he isn't ready for a plague to come and his wife to make one mistake! My heart broke for him by what he has been through, but he still has so much spirit and spunk left in him, that its hard not to like him! He is totally like Rambo ;)
The plot of this was fairly fast paced and absolutely entertaining. The idea of the prepper being prepared but being able to do nothing about the plague was unique and refreshing. Usually all these books have a common theme but I liked that the author used the plague coming back rather than making a new, never before seen virus. Also, Battle was totally and utterly kick ass!
In all, this was a quick and addictive read and I can't wait for the next one!! Give it a go, you won't regret it.
Kevin Pierce has once again nailed his performance. I've said it a few times now, but he has such a perfect voice for this type of book. He is easy to listen to and quickly grabs your attention and is a narrator I know will always deliver.
*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affected my thoughts.*

Nice start to 3 novel dystopian adventure
I'm currently listening to Canyon the second novel in The Traveler series. Home is set in 2037 five years after pneumonic plague killed 2/3 of the world population. The US government has pulled out of a vast area of the southwest as ungovernable and the Cartel, a huge criminal gang set up as a military organization has taken over. One man named Battle fights them. He plays by his rules and he kills Cartel members without pity; he believes in an eye for an eye but prefers to take his opponent's eye before his opponent can commit his evil deed. Those who are fans of post apocalyptic novels will like this series. Narration is superb.

Smart, Realistic, and Engaging
Well-written (& well-performed) post-apocalyptic dystopian novel. Definitely kept me interested and engaged. Can't wait to finish the trilogy!
