Publisher's summary

This first book of the Holding Their Own series, A Story of Survival, is set in the year 2015, when the world is burdened by the second Great Depression. The United States, already weakened by internal strife, becomes the target of an international terror plot. A series of attacks results in thousands of casualties and disables the country's core infrastructure. The combination of economic hardship and the staggering blow of the terror attacks results in a collapse of the government.

This is a realistic story of how an average, middle class couple survives the cascading events brought on by international politics, high tech military actions and the eventual downfall of society. All of their survival skills are tested during the action packed expedition in a world that resembles the American West of 200 years past.

Horrible, the person sending this book is pure torture

I have spent hundreds on audio books the past few years, but this is possibly the worst I have heard yet. There is this annoying little digital tune they do when changing characters. Now I get it some people may need the notification but not most. Also I grew up and live north of Houston Texas, I just want you folks not lucky enough to live in Texas know that we don't sound or talk like the moron who read the book.

Good story, terrible narration

This was a tough one to get through because of the narration. The reviews from other people who had read the print edition were good enough so I thought I would give it a listen. The story was alright but the narration was by far the worst I have ever listened to. It amazes me that there doesn't seem to have been any quality control when approving this narration.
Its TEOTWAWKI and one couples experiences as everything falls apart. Some of it is a little far fetched and the couples banter gets pretty bad but the overall story is alright. There are also quite a few tangents that never seem to be followed up which would have made the story more interesting.
If you enjoy the SHTF genre and have read all of the others, then maybe give this one a shot, but not until the narration is re-done!

Not for Conservative Listners

What would have made Holding Their Own: A Story of Survival better?

What could Joe Nobody have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Any additional comments?

I stopped listening to this book approximately 2 hours in so it may change direction...but I doubt it. I could not stand to listen to the author vilify conservatives another second. A few examples: Comparing a "Conservative" senator to Hitler & conservative talk radio "fanning the flames" of a protest & causing a riot...

Conservative listeners & people with common sense: Don't waste your money.

The narrator is a B- at best probably a C

This is a good story mediocre really written and even poorly performed by the narrator. On top of that to her three times and every chapter there is an annoying chime I assume to indicatechanging periods of time or location.although you have left a compelling interest in finding out he was in the plane that landed I will not be buying the next book in the series because listening to this book is too annoying to put up with.

Bad narration

Couldn't get past the narrator's nagging voice. Worst performance I've ever listened to 😬 The story itself was just ok but, definitely not worth bearing through the narration.

Do not buy this audio book

What would have made Holding Their Own: A Story of Survival better?

I was really interested in starting this series, but after listening to 5 minutes of this audio book I stopped listening. The guy reading the book is very boring and the audio quality is the worst that I have ever heard at audible.com. This book should have never been released or needs to be redone. audible stole 17 dollars from everyone who buys this.

The worst production I have ever heard

What would have made Holding Their Own: A Story of Survival better?

I bet that the majority of the people that buy this book will only be able to listen to it for an hour or so, I made it 1hr 22min before I had to shut it off. The problem is not the performance of the actor and the story seems OK as far as I can pay attention. The problem is, instead of saying the chapter number, a very loud tone of 6 notes plays. It is like a bomb going off in your head. I will try and explain my reaction. Think of getting very quiet with some very soft music and just as you start to fall to sleep....BAAAAAH... an air horn goes off next to your ear. That is how it seems, BAAAAAH, every few seconds. It is worse than a water boarding.

Any additional comments?

I wish I had had enough book to listen to, to hear the chapter change, sad part is you never do know what chapter number it is.
