Publisher's summary

Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors rise to Britain's defense by taking to the skies - not aboard aircraft but atop the mighty backs of fighting dragons.

When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes its precious cargo - an unhatched dragon egg - fate sweeps Captain Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature.

Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France's own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte's boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into a baptism of fire.

Don't miss the rest of the Temeraire series: Book 2: Throne of Jade and Book 3: Black Powder War.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

Would you listen to His Majesty's Dragon again? Why?

Yes. I ended up buying the next two books in this series and I love them. The author does a great job, very enjoyable, and the reader has just the right tone.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked best the relationships between the Lawrence and Temeraire, but also between all the characters.

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does all the voices, but the voice of the 2 lead characters are especially right on target.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I haven't the time to hear it all at once.

Any additional comments?

I've highly reccomended it to others.

A great start to the series

I found this series after going through most of the Richard Sharpe books. It's a great alternative.

best integration of dragons and alt history

(so far)

this is written very well. it reminds me of Mervyn Peake meets Jane Austin with a hefty splash of Dickens.

there were moments I wished for more details, however, on the whole, it was evocative and fertile grounds for one's imaginarium to run amuck.

Thought provoking to say the least.

No idea what to expect when I picked up this book. I like dragons. The author took me far beyond expectations with a lesson in class and manners around the Napoleonic wars. The reader was consistent and entertaining with all the character voices. I look forward to more from the author and narrator.

Love this series! LOVE his voice.

Ok, I already loved this series Namoi Nokik does an amazing job at integrating fantasy into historical fiction. Her mechanics are good, characters are great, dialogue flows well. I even cried over a few parts, and I did chuckle a few times. Good amount of drama vs action.

On a side note his voice puts me to sleep so after finishing the first book I put it on for bed. XD. he does a good job of voicing characters and you can feel his emotions thru his tones. <3 Overall very happy with this purchase.

Believable Characters. simple plot.

What there is here in this novel is great. The narration and the written characters work together to flesh out a believable story. which is saying something when it includes dragons! 🐉

I do wish there was a more significant adventure to spice up the plot. Still I enjoyed listening to it enough to get the next installment.
