Publisher's Summary

During a war between two planets in the same solar system - each occupied by adapted humans - what is thought to be a cosmic superstring is discovered. After being cut, this object collapses into four cylindrical pieces, each about the size of a tube train. Each is densely packed with either alien technology or some kind of life. They are placed for safety in three ozark cylinders of a massively secure space station. There a female research scientist subsequently falls pregnant, and gives birth to quads. Then she commits suicide - but why? By the end of the war one of the contesting planets has been devastated by the hilldiggers - giant space dreadnoughts employing weapons capable of creating mountain ranges. The quads have meanwhile grown up and are assuming positions of power in the post-war society. One of them will eventually gain control of the awesome hilldiggers....

"A master storyteller at the top of his game"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Hilldiggers is a great Scfi Novel well written & narrated. For fans of Neal Asher they will be very happy with this stand alone Novel & for those who have not read the Agent Cormac or Spatterjay series this book is a great introduction to his work. As with most of Neals books there are some great characters in this book & be they human , alien or AI they come across as believable & real. You are quickly drawn into the story & are fully engaged from start to finish. If your looking for an action packed audio book that you can't put down here it is.

What did you like best about this story?

I'm a big fan of the Polity novels so this was a real treat but I think Tigger was my Favourate character there's something about the war drones in the books that just appeal also to have a hooper as one of the lead characters was good. The combination of those two strong minded erasible personalities just works.

Have you listened to any of David Marantz’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No this is the first time I have come across this narrator but I was pleased with his performance

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes I found myself chuckling away at parts, sympathising & feeling anger. As with any well written book the story & the narrative lead the way. Although these books are set far in our future they are wholly believable you relate to the characters & as they learn & explore their environment so do you.

    Any additional comments?

A great addition to audible & I hope to see more Neal Asher books soon

    "Solid Asher."

This is a great piece of scifi that's not as brutal as Asher's other books, and probably the better for it. Thoroughly enjoyed.
