BOOK 2 IN THE IRON DRUID CHRONICLES

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, doesn’t care much for witches. Still, he’s about to make nice with the local coven by signing a mutually beneficial nonaggression treaty - when suddenly the witch population in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, quadruples overnight. And the new girls are not just bad, they’re badasses with a dark history on the German side of World War II.

With a fallen angel feasting on local high school students, a horde of Bacchants blowing in from Vegas with their special brand of deadly decadence, and a dangerously sexy Celtic goddess of fire vying for his attention, Atticus is having trouble scheduling the witch hunt. But aided by his magical sword, his neighbor’s rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and his vampire attorney, Atticus is ready to sweep the town and show the witchy women they picked the wrong Druid to hex.

This is my very favorite book series.

I listen to it at least once a year. Luke Daniels (narrator) does so many voices and he does them so well. It really makes every individual feel so real. I recommend this series to everyone I know..

Not everyone can pull off a great sequel, but this one fits the bill! Can't wait for the next one!

Another great entry but one small issue

The story is good and the narration is awesome about 95% of the time. There is one section where two characters are using very similar accents and it is especially difficult to tell who is saying what. Otherwise, it is near perfect and I definitely recommend it.

Excellent urban paranormal fantasy

Originally posted at Fantasy Literature.

Usually, after a hero slays the bad guy in his first book, he gets a break. But not Atticus O’Sullivan. He knew this would happen, too, which is part of the reason he would have preferred to leave Aenghus Óg alone, if he could have. But now he’s done it and, sure enough, there are consequences — everyone knows where he is and everyone wants a piece of him. Suddenly, Tempe Arizona is full of paranormals, most notably a coven of East European witches who fought with Hitler back in WWII, and a group of Bacchants from Las Vegas (where else?) who plan to do more than party.

Like its predecessor, Hexed is chock full of exciting action and tons of laughs. Oberon is in full form here, providing lots of truly funny comic relief (best sidekick ever!), and Atticus himself is hilarious, especially when he’s trying to evade the cops by pretending to be just a doped up occult bookshop owner. The vampire and werewolf lawyers are further developed and Atticus also brings on a bright and perky apprentice — the Irish girl who’s been waiting tables at Rúla Búla.

The Iron Druid Chronicles continues to be excellent urban paranormal fantasy that you won’t want to miss if you love that genre and that you should try if you don’t. I highly recommend Brilliance Audio’s version read by Luke Daniels — he is superb.

excellent piece!

this is a lovely and well-written novel. it is exceptional and it is extemely enjoyable to witness the manner in which Kevin Hearne (the author) has structured his stories so that his audience may access history, science, mythology, religion, and many other fields of knowledge.

as a practicing Catholic, I am refreshed by the fair characterization Hearne makes about our religion.

the narrator, Luke Daniels, is phenomenal and extrmely talented. he has a huge range of voices, accents, and a broad vocal range for any voice he wants to emulate. he represents the thoughts and actions of the protagonist in a sincere and thoughtful manner. it is always pleasant to hear his voice and this series should consider itself lucky to have acquired such a steady and masterful performer. he makes narrating look easy, which it isnt.

Good narration except TERRIBLE ACCENTS

The narrator for this series is good at storytelling but horrible at accents. The little old Irish widow sounds like a lucky charms leprechaun, and coyote’s western accent is just awful. For some reason Atticus says he picks up coyote’s speech patterns but the narrator also makes him use coyote’s extra cheesy accent. There’s a whole long scene where you can’t tell who’s who and it’s barely listenable.

A fun adventure

A man older than jesus. Friends with witches, vampires, and werewolves. A thousand pop culture references and puns. What could be wrong with this book? Nothing. Completely worth your time.
