More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by diving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.
When one of the remaining airships is damaged in an electrical storm, a Hell Diver team is deployed to a hostile zone called Hades. But there's something down there that's far worse than the mutated creatures discovered on dives in the past - something that threatens the fragile future of humanity.

That life is worth living is the most necessary of assumptions, and were it not assumed, the most impossible of conclusions. G. Santayana
I love R. C. Bray! I listen to anything he narrates. I'm a huge fan of his. Once again he did not disappoint.
OK. That's out of the way.
I argued with myself about my rating here. I devour fast paced, non-stop action books. My library is full of them. But... I don't want to give away any spoilers. Hmmm...
Everything is perfect here, except. I kept hoping for redemption for these last souls. I clung on for the whole book! I wanted to internally clap and fist bump in the air. I wanted to feel that relief you feel when the hero triumphs. Instead, I waited, I waited and I actually cried at one point.
So you see, I had a very hard time rating this. I loved it and at the same time I felt like I was dangling onto the action, one foot on the cross , the other off kind of feeling. WHEN am I going to be able to root as they meet their goals!! Oh god!! Another person dies! Please stop, stop !! Another sad scene! For the love of God.....isn't there ANYTHING to brighten this great book?!
I'm not used to crying while listening to a pseudo military action packed book!
Sigh, near the end I cried B_llsh_t! I was so pissed, I actually said," Oh come on for god's sake DONT DO THIS TO ME"!!!
Great action, sad book. Would say more but I really don't want to spoil this.
I have an eclectic taste in books. I move from Jodi Picoult to Gillian Flynn. From Ken Kesey to Janet Evanovich. If it is good, I'll read it
I knew going in Hell Divers would be okay because RC Bray is the narrator. My expectations were exceeded within the first fifteen minutes. Nicholas Sansbury Smith kept the pace moderately fast to edge of your seat nail-biting warp speed. What a ride! The only reason why I didn't rate this audio production a five is because you can clearly tell there was an effort to edit out some of the profanity. Thankfully, this was only mildly annoying. I understand kids are listening to this book. However, if the author dropped the F bomb in the book, I want to hear that explosion in the narration as well. Otherwise, Hell Divers is a total 10! I am eagerly awaiting book 2!
Interesting, different, well-written.
The way the writer describes the creatures is so well done, they gave me the creeps.
Probably nothing because I prefer to read over listening. He was really good, though.
Earth is uninhabitable and only Hell Divers can save mankind.
Exceptionally well-written. Perfectly descriptive of existing conditions and characters without over doing it. Can't wait for the next book!
I love to read but I have begun to enjoy listening s little bit more...I may 'read' another novel again but then again....
What a great book to listen to for a newbe to this genre. I have a 'crush' on R.C.Bray's voice , I could listen to him all day! Great voice and inflections and like I said, I could listen to him all day. The book was a great listen for this first timer and I enjoyed the story line, some of you may not agree with me and thats fine, every person has thier own likes and this is one quite a few will like. I am now eagerly awaiting the next book, I wish this one had of ended differently, makes me curious though as to what is going to happen. Captain Ash just may have...............read it!
This puts a whole new twist on the apocalypse! I found it more than exciting funny and all-round where are good for. I just like the ending
I love almost anything post-apocalyptic, zombie, scifi, ect. Always looking for some new earhole entertainment!
Absolutely loved this book! Can't wait for the rest of the trilogy! I bought this book because I love post apocalyptic books and because R. C. Bray is an excellent narrator! This is a great new apocalyptic twist! It's set 250 years after WW3 and the last of humanity lives on airships diving to the planet's surface for supplies.
Reading this book was a hell of a ride.Fast paced and full of action, I can't wait for the next installment.
Combining the plot of a post apocalyptic world filled with monsters and heroes who sacrifice their lives so the rest of humanity can continue living was a great story.
"Omg, I mean......wow."
This is one of the best books I have ever listened to. A word of advice though..... don't start listening to this book at night, I couldn't turn it off or fall asleep. So thank you Nicholas Sansbury Smith, its now 9am and I'm an exhausted slobbering mess with spots floating before my eyes, I hope you're happy. Amazing book, but I am now going to fall into a coma. I almost forgot (exhortation) R. C. Bray did an amazing job with this book, honestly couldn't have been done better.
"Great story, great pace, great characters"
Yes, just before I read the sequel, due in 2017
'X'. Floored but courageous and decent. In some ways a typical all American hero, but never lapsing into stereotype and always likable.
"OMFG!!!!!! Buy this book!!!!"
Simply amazing. I'm funny with new authors but i took a chance. Sooo glad I did. This was fast paced beginning to end. Action packed and really enjoyable. I'm not going to repeat the blurb for you. However I'd never heard of Nicholas Sansbury Smith before. After I finished listening to helldivers (audible) I went out and bought it hardback. I've also bought via kindle the orb series, extinction cycle 1-5 and pre ordered book 6. Brilliant author, up there in my top 5. Cannot wait for Helldivers: Ghosts.
An incredible concept, superbly written. Something completely new that will keep you gripped from start to finish.
"HELL IF A BOOK"
Hell Divers is a hell of a book. Nicholas imagination has no limit!
If you enjoy post-apocalyptic thrilling books, then this one is for you!
RC Bray is a fantastic narrator who will drag you along with his unique voice.
I can't wait for book 2 to come out!!
"Superb book, gripping from start to finish."
Hard to choose a favourite character, most were well fleshed out and believable. The interactions between the Hell Divers and the command crew were a highlight.
A few others - this one is on par with his usually excellent performances.
I did listen to it in one sitting thanks to a long haul flight. Made the whole thing an unusually enjoyable experience!
This is a great book, don't hesitate to buy - this only dissapointing thing is you have to wait a year for the next one!
I love R.C Bray narrating books, his voice is perfect for this book. I won't lie I had a tear at the end of the story. this is a great listen good story and I highly recommend this one. Great book.
This is my second novel from the same author nick s smith, the first was extinction cycle. If you enjoyed that I think you will enjoy this. I think the problem I have with this author is his writing style its adequate and serviceable but not that exciting. I had the same problem with extinction cycle. So if ur a fan of the author plz get this book you will love it and the narration by RC Bray is amazing. Otherwise if ur looking for a post apocalyptic tale plz listen to Arisen it's beyond amazing (also narrated by RC Bray)
This has to rate up there amongst one of the best books. It had all the ingredients, and then some.
I found myself being unable to sleep as I couldn't put the book down.
The narrator was absolutely right for this book and his performance was brilliant.
"It doesn't get much better than this"
Hell Divers is a non stop roller coaster of a novel. Engaging characters that draw you in to an action filled epic post apocalyptic sci-fi adventure. I found this book truly enjoyable. Fantastically written by Nicholas Sansbury Smith. and Narrated by the one and only R.C Bray.
Smith's writing is beautifully detailed, describing a world savaged by nuclear devastation, the remnants of humanity striving to survive. Brays narration Brings Smith's vision to life as only he can. I can't recommend this book enough. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!!
If you're a fan of sci-fi, apocalyptic drama, action or adventure THIS book ticks all those boxes and more.
