Publisher's summary

A rising star in the fantasy genre, Michael J. Sullivan has built an ardent following for his Riyria Revelations saga, which draws to its epic conclusion in Heir of Novron.

On the holiday of Wintertide, the New Empire plans to burn the Witch of Melengar and force the Empress into a marriage of their own design. But they didn’t account for Royce and Hadrian finally locating the Heir of Novron—or the pair’s desire to wreak havoc on the New Empire’s carefully crafted scheme.

Heir of Novron contains Wintertide and Percepliquis, books 5 and 6 of Riyria Revelations.

Fabulous series. I recommend to everyone.

Having been a lifelong fan of fantasy, I can’t believe it took me this long to find this series. I loved everything about the whole series. This book is the nearly perfect ending to a nearly perfect series. I love that I could listen to it with my children also with no worries or reservations.

Wrapped up in a Nice Blue Ribbon

As promised this series drives toward the conclusion weaving up loose ends as it goes. The action is operatic at times and concerns deadly magic spells, magic swords, the fall of kingdoms and the annihilation of whole races. I like the characters very much and Sullivan gives them many witty things to say. The court intrigue is really well done. The scene where Nesssus comes to Hardian’s rescue against a bevy of Royal dandies is worth rewinding to listen to again. I found it to be an engaging story. The fact that I knew it was going to have a nice tidy ending kept me guessing what that ending would be. I only guessed about half of it. Over all it was an enjoyable listening experience. One observation, and this is not a criticism, is that the light hearted banter of the characters never allow this to reach epic status, but by its very light hearted nature is entertaining none the less.

Tim Gerard Reynolds has become the voice of Royce and Hadrian for me. And his other characterizations are also very well done. There are several major female characters. He is able to make his voice handle the fairer voices most superbly, never becoming awkward or shrill. He is very good in this series.

Epic conclusion to a fantastic series!

What did you love best about Heir of Novron?

There is so much happening in this book that it just takes off from the first word to the last one. At this point, all the back story is already established, so we jump right in to the action.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hadrian really shines in this book. We get to see him flex his awesome fighting prowess, demonstrate some strategic intelligence, and we see some of his more vulnerable side as well. We see the depth of his connection with Royce, as Royce struggles with the aftermath of "Rise of Empire". Hadrian is simply a good man, and that really shows here. Add that to his wry wit and intelligent barbs and you have an interesting, admirable protagonist that I would love to be best friends with.

Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynolds’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all Reynold's performances in the two Riyria series. I feel like this is comparable to the rest of the series, which adds to the performance in my opinion. I feel it would be really off-putting to listen to a series where the quality varies from book to book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I always laugh in these books. You can't help it, Reynold's does a great job with adding inflections and emotions to the voices so you can hear it when characters are incredulous or sarcastic or growling menacingly. But the truly impressive reaction in my mind is the frustration it can induce. You get to watch the enemy twist truth in truly impressive ways to suit their needs, and watch the general public swallow it, and all the while you know what manipulative, dangerous people they are. The political intrigues are intricate and brilliantly executed, and it is amazing to me how deftly the same event can be twisted into several different descriptions of that event to manipulate different types of people.

Thouroughly entertaining

Great series! Will be purchasing The Riyria Chronicles. A shame this followup series is half the listening time as Revelations. Tim Gerard Reynolds is a great narrator. Not sure if the series or the narration was the most impressive.

Great fun - a series worth my time

I enjoy books that are longer, full of detail. This was one of those books you look forward to listening to. You find yourself running a little more or taking it to the store with you.

This series did not disappoint. The writing was fluid and the characters were were personable. The leads Hadrian and Royce could fill up several other books. You grow to like even the smaller parts, such as Magnus.

This series is worth a try.

Lovely story!

I love this series and the narrators voice. I fell asleep to it many times and enjoyed re-listening to those parts when characters are all well developed, the story is the right amount of complex with a few surprises, and I especially like the role women play in this series, and how love is portrayed respectfully between partners. Though most of the main characters are male, they too are multi-dementional and flawed, yet still redeemable and likeable after their trial and tribulations. I'm looking forward to listening to more like this one!
