Publisher's summary

From the mind of the storyteller who has captured the imagination of readers from around the worldand across generations comes this classic work of science fiction.

First prize in the Skyway Soap slogan contest was an all-expenses-paid trip to the moon. The consolation prize was an authenticspace suit, and when scientifically minded high school senior Kip Russell wonit, he knew for certain he would use it one day to make a sojourn of his own tothe stars. But "one day" comes sooner than he thinks when he tries the suit on in his backyard - and finds himself worlds away, a prisoner aboard a space pirate's ship. The whole thing seems like a bad dream until he discovers he's not theonly prisoner on board. Kip - along with the daughter of a world-renownedscientist and a beautiful creature from another planet - has been kidnapped by amonstrous extraterrestrial, and they are heading straight for what could be Kip's final destination.

A Classic SF Reflection on Life and Values

This was a favourite novel of mine read and reread dozens of times over the years. I treasured it for it's many nuggets of truth hidden in an apparently straight forward youth oriented coming of age novel with Horatio Alger over tones. But look beyond the 50s rocket ship and space invaders setting and you find more than a feel good story. Who are we. Where did we come from. Where are we going. How do we measure success. The existential questions keep piling up with folksy asides and quiet humour to levin the offering. By the end we know Kip and to a lesser extent Peewee as real people with flaws, warts, and warmth to spare

I didn't like the performers voice as it was off from what I had imagined all these years and the approach was a little too "Archie and Jughead" for my favourite book but I have to admit its true to the overall tone of Heinlein"s writing.

Read the original and form your own opinion.

A true classic

This is one of my favorite RAH books. While written for juvenile audiences it is still interesting and engaging enough for adults.

Fun Sci Fi Coming of Age

Great coming of age story through a fast paced sci fi story with a few surprising twists. Fun.

Phenomenal Voice Acting

Having listened to many audiobooks, I can say this is one of the best readings I have ever heard. The narrator does a fantastic job giving each character a distinct, unique voice. The story is a good, 1950's space adventure, but the voice acting here sets this book apart.

loved this

I loved this as a kid a few decades ago. finding it as audio now that my eyes don't work as well has been a wonderful trip back to my comfort days.

a nice kid just wants to go to space, more specifically, the moon. he enters a contest and wins a used spacesuit he works hard to refurbish it and spends his summer after high school graduation making it as perfect as he can. playing in it one last time his suit radio makes a connection! a ship Flys down and lands next to him. an alien gets out. he and his suit travel to space and beyond. what an adventure!

I was already space crazy when I read this the first time. it just made me worse. I was ready to buy my own suit. ahhh. the bliss of young ideals

Brilliant, a good performance on an excellent book.
Original and interesting story that expands continously.
Well worth its money.

Great Heinlein read by a fine narrator

Enjoyed this book: my only disappointment is that it wasn't longer. Great narration, including the various math explanations.

Ideal young adult sci-fi

Adults may find the opening of this novel juvenile, but any reader can enjoy the adventures that follow. The aliens surpass expectation, and the precocious kids’ fortitude and endurance warm the heart. Their quarreling May be tedious it Heinlein’s iat times, and the mathematics may wear on one’s patience, b

Great book, weak reading

The reader has a very poor grasp of the characters as written. Dialogue is persistently mismatched with the author's description of its delivery, and the first-person protagonist sounds about five years younger than his stated age. Try to find another reading of this YA masterpiece!

Couldn't 'put it down'.

I enjoyed Heinlein books when I was younger, but had never read this one. I suppose it was because the title reminded me of the type of pulp sci fi that I didn't really care for.

I'm glad I decided to give it a chance. This was a non stop, fun, fast paced adventure with the thought provoking ideas and fully realized characters that you come to expect from a RH novel.

It was performed, not just read, beautifully. This is one for not only readers of classic Science Fiction. Great stories and great writers are enduring in their appeal. While the settings on earth are obviously dated, the story itself remains fresh.
