Publisher's summary

Times are hard for newly minted vampire Merit. Ever since shapeshifters announced their presence to the world, humans have been rallying against supernaturals - and they're camping outside of Cadogan House with protest signs that could turn to pitchforks at any moment. Inside its doors, things between Merit and her Master, green-eyed heartbreaker Ethan Sullivan, are tense. But then the mayor of Chicago calls Merit and Ethan to a clandestine meeting and tells them about a violent vamp attack that has left three women missing. His message is simple: get your House in order. Or else.

Merit needs to get to the bottom of this crime, but it doesn't help that she can't tell who's on her side. So she secretly calls in a favor from someone who's tall, dark, and part of an underground vamp group that may have some deep intel on the attack. Merit soon finds herself in the heady, dark heart of Chicago's supernatural society - a world full of vampires who seem to be ready to fulfill the protesting human's worst fears, and a place where she'll learn that you can't be a vampire without getting a little blood on your hands.

EXECELLENT

I have read and listened to a lot of different vampire series and this series is definitely in my top five. The story line is wonderful, the narrator is excellent, and the characters are fun. I love this series and can’t wait for the next book to come out in August. I have already listened to this series a few times and will continue to do so. 5 stars.

I'm not sure what's put me off.....

I like this series and while I'm not crazy about the ending on this one it was still a good book.

I didn't really care for the way it was read. I've listened to quite a bit of Cynthia Holloway on other books and liked her very much so I know it's not her. In this case I just don't think she lines up with what I have in my head where Merit is concerned.

Or it could be I'm taking it out on her because I really didn't like the end of this book.:)

I'll have to think about whether I want the next installment to be words on the page or words in my ears. Something's put me off this book and I just can't put my finger on what it is.

Disappointing Ending

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, enjoyable story

Would you be willing to try another book from Chloe Neill? Why or why not?

I will reluctantly listen to the listen to the next in the series - but the ending of this one ended one of the main storylines and you never get the happy ending you assume was meant to come.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Merit wants to sleep next to Ethan.

Shocking Plot Twist

I must admit, I have mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed it until the very shocking plot twist at the end. Then it was sad and the story ended on a sad note. I reeeally had to think about it before getting the next book in the series. On the one hand, it's nice to be surprised by a plot. On the other hand, arrrgggh! In real life, sometimes bad things happen. But aren't fictional books about escaping from reality or taking a vacation for a bit? Hmmm. This is why I have mixed feelings. I was finally curious enough to get the next one. I'm hoping things will brighten up a bit for Merit (I know, dark vampire books). Hopefully some humor or romance will be included.

Barely tolerable

Story is so-so. You can walk away and never wonder what happens to these characters. I just don't care much anymore. Parts of this book could have been really good, but the writing is teenager-ish, and the lead character gets really, really boring. Maybe it's the readers fault that the main character is boring, snobbish and really, really snarky; and not in a good way! I purchased this forth audible book hoping the reader would eventually improve and not get on my nerves so much, so I could at least finish the story line, but she's worse this time around. And the supposed main romantic interest is just as dull. I really don't care about these characters much anymore to purchase further audible books
from this author.

Not particularly happy with the ending.

This series has been entertaining. However, the ending of Hard Bitten was disapointing. I will read the next book and hope the writer makes up for it. Narrator is not bad once you get used to her. Going to read/listen to Hunger Games before the last book of this series, well not sure if its the last book but its the last one here on audible.

Disappointed with one thing

I look forward to book 5, but that will be my last one in the series because I've gotten to like Cynthia Holloway narrating.

To change a reader in any series is stupid, in my view, and makes it hard at least for me, to finish a series.

Enjoyable, but strange at times.

The fourth book in this series continued the enjoyable tale of Merit the newly made vampire and her adventures in Chicago. Overall, it was still enjoyable with interesting characters a fascinating world where Vampires have revealed their presence to the world.

Throughout the series, I have found the setting strange as many of the vampires live in a dorm-room-esque environment and act in many cases like college students. This odd disparity of 50+ year old vampires acting like 22 year old undergrads was even more apparent at various times throughout this novel than it had been previously. At several points throughout I found myself wondering why these beings acted more like children than worldly adults.

Still, the overall experience was enjoyable, and while I found certain events at the end somewhat unrealistic, the twists and turns of the plot were well done, and not entirely predictable. Overall, if you are looking for a fun Vampire fluff novel, book 4 of the Chicagoland vampires is not a bad choice.

Excellent Series

Really good last book in this series (I count this series as one of my all-time favorite of this genre) except for one really horrible awful thing that happens that was awful and horrible.

Anyway, well-written and very involving (except for that awful horrible thing that I mentioned above).
